Strike-zone, good point you make. If I had a mercury, Id probably think Etecs were pretty good too. Your point is like wearing a Ford shirt and driving a Holden.
i currently have a merc (great motor ) but when i come into some money a etec will go on def not a heavy slug like a honda and yes they do disolve in water
Every person i know who have etecs have had injector problems, i work wiht at least 4 blokes who have had the same problems.. It amazes me thatsomeone can acutally have a valid arguement for etecs... Cant go past the suzi's or yamaha's or hondas IMO
Lastchance i like your thoughts..
back on track i have know a fella who is waiting for these hondas to be launched to get a couple...
that you would have seen as well that had well over 6000 trouble free hours on them when sold and are still going strong. They didnt get serviced for the last 1000 hours he did as he was looking to upgrade when they died.He gave up trying to kill them and sold them instead.I would rather my outboard dissolve at 7000 hours than paddle back in with an etec on.
Not a single problem from 2002 on a BF115! It did have corrosion on the fasteners under the hood though. Etecs? Im not sure, but my outboard mechanic hates them.
I don't have a love affair with any mechanic. I think they all love money more than brands. Some brands just make them more than others.
I bought the diagnostic program and do all my own servicing. After 1100 hours I could of nearly bought a new motor with what I've saved.
three services to save that hey.lol. Probably cheaper to run the motor with no services until it craps itself then buy a new one and still be ahead.Just seen to many etec issues for me to look at one in the 225 plus range.
as much as I like the Honda's they tend to be heavy and over priced compared to the Yammies and Suzukies.
If they bring in the new 250hp with prop, guages and throttles under $30k they got a chance in the market, because for a few thou more you can get a 300hp Yammie or Suzuki, both of wich are supper ecconomical and quiet.

Isn't that a bit like going to Bunnings and buying 10 shitty Chinese $5 tools (1 + 9 backups) rather than one decent tool for $50 ?

I've heard some average things about etecs...
heard nothing bad about hondas, yammys, and suzukis. i had a 115hp yammy 4 stroke 2004 with 900 hours still going strong.
