GoPro Camera Video Editing

Hi All,

I've been testing out my new GoPro camera.

When transferring the videos to my computer (only 6 months old) the video is playing back distorted and pixelated.

Any suggestion to overcome this? Could it be codec related?

Is there any recommendation on software or the process to transfer/edit videos from GoPro to PC?

cheers

Wayne

Try VLC

try a program called VLC it is a media player that plays just about any kind of file format. www.videolan.org is where it should be. but to edit them you can also get a program cinestudio from the gopro site. you will also need that to update any gopro products. hope this helps.

On my PC I use powerdirector 11- havent used it all that much yet but it is fairly easy to get the hang of and it had excelent reviews.. cost $50 and worth IMO.... you can convert it to loads of different formats and file sizes.... Go to youtube for tutorials and tricks.....

My mate who has a Mac uses the standard  I-move and thats as good as any others...

VLC as tit (?) said is great and free too.... plays everything...

Just shoot 1080

Mon, 2013-02-04 16:57

Hey mate,

Unless you are a film maker don't bother with 2.7K or 4K. I noticed Fathom wrote that 1080p was yesterday and 2.7k is today. I'm doubting anyone in these forums owns a tv that can display higher than 1920 x 1080 so unless you are digitally zooming into your video in post (maybe to stabilise) then there is no point in shooting anything higher than 1080. Plus as you've said your computer has a hard time playing 4K in realtime.

If I was you I would just shoot in 1080, it's gonna make your life a whole lot easier when it comes to editing. Plus you can shoot up to 60 frames per second in 1080 if you wanted to do some slow motion stuff once you wrap your head around it all.

yeah... dont bother with the future

Buy a Ferrari and drive around in second gear all the time. ohh and by the way joel88 my 27" iMac displays a lot more  then 1080. Dont listen to me though, hey, if you're a not going to use a camera at it's full potential buy a cheap heap o crap, don't let the latest tech slow you down.

One can always down-res....can't up-res from 1080...4K is where the future is at and if you always shoot at the max res possible you have pontential of making some coin for years ahead of now.

Don't buy the hype

Good for you having a 27 inch iMac but I was responding to the original post, not to you. I'm sure he would much prefer shooting 1080 footage that he can watch and edit on his computer than having 2.7k or even 4k that he can't do anything with for the time being.

Resolution is not everything desipte what you may think. Using a GoPro 3 in 1080p is definitely not a waste of the camera. It is still far superior than the first 2 HD models.

I see absolutely no need in shooting 4k in the hope that someone will buy the footage in the future for their 4k tv. Film to what suits you now and think about what you want it for.

Plus 4k is only 15 frames per second! Unless you are shooting timelapse this is a useless feature.

Personally I agree with the fact that for some 2.7k is better, myself included, but my job is in film and tv post production so I know how to, and have the equipment to handle it.

You are free to shoot what ever resolution you like Fathom but my original advice still stands in regards to the original post.
