Furuno FCV - 587

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone runs the furuno sounders in there boats? I have a furuno FCV-587 and was hoping to get a few tips on how to better use it. I currently sit my sounder on the zoom setting and wind the gain up till I get a little bit of intererence to try and pick the fish up. I have the split screen happening so on the left I have the bottom lock on 5 meters. Is that what most people use? Or is there another setting that I should be using. Really trying to pick up the reds and Nannys on the bottom.
Any feedback would be great
Thank

Unlike some, I keep it as
Unlike some, I keep it as simple as possible.
Full auto everything under 40m deep on 200 kHz. 40-150m, auto everything except I use a 40 m screen range and use shift to get the bottom in the lower 1/3 of the screen. Again, 200 kHz.
Deeper than 150, use 40 m screen range as above, but go full manual everything and high TVG with 50 kHz. Deeper than 300m, go slow and tweek, tweek, tweek.
I have tried split screen, bottom lock, A scope etc. In my opinion, it all just complicates things and I just leave it simple, you see what the transducer sees.
If your transducer location is good, this should work perfect.
