Demersal jigging outfit reccomendation.

G'day guys,

I'm looking at getting into some jigging for demersals (mainly snapper, dhufish, baldies, Breaksea) this season. Can people give me their reccomendations on what set-up (rod a reel) would be good for jigging with things like soft plastics and daiwa pirates. I'm thinking of running 30 pound braid.

Budget is $500 - $700.

hearty rise jigforce PE 1.5-3 rod

matched with the best shimano 4000 reel you can afford, second hand fine.

eg stradic ci4 4000, or second hand twinpower, sustain, fireblood or if you can stella.

fun times ahead.

hey bud, i plan on buying  a stradic ci4 4000 and shimano trevala rod, have 300yrds of daiwa accudepth 30lb to go on it word is should fit most of it on the spool, the rods are 7ft and come in a light or medium/light only difference i can tell is one is rated to 55-90g jigs the other 55-135g (still not sure myself on which to buy), can pick these rods up for $120 plus shipping was looking for someone to go halves in shipping if they also wanted one. this whole outfit would cost about $450 ($430 if u want to go halves in shipping for a rod), the rods should also be able to cast a lure if need be i assume and would work softys better than a shorter/faster metal jigging rod.

the list is endless mate, im surprised a few more ppl havnt thrown their 2 cents worth in, lots of options although im aware of a few ppl running the outfit i suggested and for the price you'll be hard pressed to find anything better. i suggest you head to your local tackle shop and pick their brains, for 500-700 you should walk away with a nice rod n reel and maybe a few $ to spare and throw at jigs.

For pirates & plastics then I would go with a plastics combo coz let's face it pirates are not real jigs!

Daiwa demon blood combi jerk, Eupro Twincraft etc. all the site tackle sponsors can sort you there & buy the best reel you can with the cash left over

looking for the same

Wed, 2011-11-23 16:42

hi , I am looking for similar outfitt and have decieded on either a 10000 saragosa with the new white t curve terez 7 foot 2 30ib or possibly a 14000 0r 18000 saragosa teamed with a terez 6 foot 9 or 7 foot 2 50ib outfitt.

both with come under 700 even with the braid maybe.

hang on i havnt really decieded have i dohhh , too much choice.

it must have been easier when the old man bought his first outfitts in oz , at crackel for tackle in perth 1969.

(we r 10 pound poms, welsh actually)

for him a 12 foot butterworth rod, brass ferrell 2 piece ,6 inch alvey

for mum solid glass 7 foot jarvis walker ,wire guides, mitchell eggbeater, both caught plenty of fish too!

defs recommend saragosa 18000

Thu, 2011-11-24 18:40

defs recommend saragosa 18000 but i dont think the terez would be that good for the boat, i have one, and have used it with my 18000 and its fine dont get me wrong but the rod just seem abit to big for the boat

yeah sorry should have said , i want a long rod , for casting , and putting in rod holders out the back, to clear the other lines , for floating gardies and scalies.a mate uses a 7 foot t curve and it does the job fine, but agree normally 6 foot and a bit is more managable , cheers

Check out the new shimano Bio

Wed, 2011-11-23 17:10

Check out the new shimano Bio master- i got the 6000SW very nice bit heavier than the ci stradic but alot tougher more drag and designed for salt water jigging not bream fishing. personally i think the 4000's are too small 5000/6000 size reels more suited to hard pulling bottom fish.

Cheers Boomer

G'day guys,

An update on what i ended up getting.

I got the Eupro twin craft rod and i actually ended up going for a Daiwa sol 4000. I had every intention on getting the stradic 5000 but the fella at All Boats (not Luke)showed me the daiwa and i was impressed.

the combo feels awesome, can't wait to use it.

Thanks to Tackle Shack for the rod and All Boats for the reel (sharinmg the luv amongts the site sponsors).

never used one, i have a daiwa bradia 2500 and am using it for jigging, really smooth nice drag and for the price probably one of the best reels ive bought, watched a few youtube vids of a kiwi bloke on a jetski catching decent sized ytk's on a td sol, as i said in an earlier post there are alot of options mate, every year new reels/rods/lures are released trying to be better than the previous, its an expensive addiction ;)

Yep agrea. Ive got 2 eupro twin crafts (one as a back up coz they are such a good rod imo), they are given to the ametures on my boat because they are so forgiven but can stick work a jig or placcy pretty well. Definently a good value for money rod and would recomend them.
Hope.you get into some cracker fish mate!
