Submitted by sammy85 on Fri, 2011-11-25 17:53
Hi all looking at purchasing a trolling rod for my solterra 50w loaded with 24kg line mostly for trolling for marlin and gamefish up north. Has to have a roller tip at least and am looking for value for money.
Thanks sammy

Just make sure your leaders
Just make sure your leaders and bimini go past the roller ... most cheap rods have crap eyes up top ..

Agree with Mako on that one.
Agree with Mako on that one. Hooked into a decent Marlin this year at Gnaraloo using the backbone. Handled it beautifully.

yeh agree
fixed guides are easier to maintain. Full rollers are better though but do require regularly stripping down, cleaning and lubing!! Other wise it is a waste of time having em!!

I'd still go the rollers. The speed and weight of the Marlin I had was Fucking unbelievable. When that thing ran it ran..... no stopping it. Some light machine oil does the trick.

I'm in the same boat sammy,
I'm in the same boat sammy, though im looking to match a tyrnos50 -24kg, im using a 10-15kg shimano triton with a tyrnos 20 at present, that i can't fault.
May just end with the triton in 15-24kg with the roller tip, for trolling large skip baits ;-)

Daiwa ninja are cheap and
Daiwa ninja are cheap and roller tip. Another option to consider.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Sorry if I offend but
the Ninjas are cheap for a reason (broomstick does come to mind)as Mako said can't go wrong with the Backbone series with the roller tip , also might want to look at the Penn Powerstick 24KG , nice big Aftco Roller that a Truck will go through , I have the 24kg and it's been a bit of a stalwart on C-Wirthy on 24kg , best thing is the guide size , nothing gets jammed when you don't wan't it , last thing you want is a 200kg beast going off at the rod tip with a double knot jammed in the roller
Just one more cast , honest !!!
