Gday - have searched the previous forums and found lots of info already. Just wondering has anybody fished in the area north of Batemans bay sanctuary zone inside the reef? i see it gets to 20m in the middle there. Im looking for places to take the boat out when the wind is too strong to go out wide just to chase fish with the kids and maybe get a feed of emperor and anything else living inside the reef also anywhere recommended for squid jigging please
Cheers Dave

G'day mate,Are you talking
G'day mate,
Are you talking about inside the reef from the North passage? If so drifting thru there with floating mulies will get you spotted mackies and possible Spanish. As for squid go a bit further north from there inside the reef and there is a fair few weed beds in that area that hold plenty of squid. Also a few good spanglies there too, so worth having a bait out while trying for the squid.
Hope you do well.
Chris.

Yeah what kirky saidBerley up
Yeah what kirky said
Berley up on the drops off mauds landing there and the spangos will come in. Best bet is to cut up a heap of mulies, try to keep the bits relatively small, and every 2-3 drops throw a handful in. Try not to get too much berley in the water at once cause it will bring the sharks in. Then just throw in an un-weighted bait and let it sink slowly, spangos love it, bait can be squid/ occy too, better than mulies as the pickers will ensure it doesnt make it down to the spangos
Best bet for squid is to head south from the boat ramp into the bay where the south passage is and drift the weed beds, youll clean up
All the best
