snapper/ cockburn snapper questions and queries.

Hey lads have bought mi first boat not too long ago and it sure does get some use haha. I have basically only been chasing cockburn sound pink snapper and squid skippy n herring so far.

My third trip and we got into some good pinks from 70 to 80 cms for two days in a row only to go back again n catch nothing but rays n banjos again and again.

I have started to try a few new spots doing the usual thing and only to catch banjos again.

I went out last night found a new little lump holding fish on it and anchored. Now the big rods werent going off but whilst bait fishing i was catching small pinkies. Does this have any connection with the bigger ones? will they eventually or at times hit this spot or means nothing?

Also catching annoying butterfish at the time what do u guys think of butterfish as fresh pinky bait if u run out of ur own supply?

Hope can get some feedback, Marko

In the same boat as you...

In the same boat as you... just got a tinny and have only been out once into Cockburn sound, got 10 undersized pinkies which is great for the future stocks. Am hoping that the bigger ones will show up at the same spot at some time... just going to keep trying.

On my spot I get plenty little ones when the big ones aren't biting. but when the tides and sun are right the big ones shouldn't be far off !!

Small pinkies early on normally a good sign

A lot of the times the bite will normally start with a few juveniles before the big fish start to feed. I have been told that a school of snapper will normally allow the smaller fish to feed first, don't know if this is a true fact but I have found it to be true a lot of the time. I remember one night in particular when fishing with my good mate DeCrais we released at least 20 snapper and left the fish still biting, I remember the fish gradually getting bigger as the night went on will Paul finishing up the night with a solid mid to high nineties fish.

We used to catch pinkies on

We used to catch pinkies on chunks of Butter fish when we were kids back in the 70's. Was pretty good bait.

Cheers

Dale
