Boat Registration
Submitted by Grey Ghost on Tue, 2018-03-20 11:13
I'm selling my boat at the moment and it has been sitting at a boat yard for a few weeks. The boat registration is now due for renewal. Do I need to renew this as I have no intention of using the boat? I believe that the buyer can pay this when the boat gets bought/transferred into their name, or I can pay it shortly before it gets sold. I understand that the boat trailer needs to be licenced othewise it will need to go over the "pits". Please indicate whether my assumptions are correct regarding renewing boat rego. and any negatives of not renewing the boat rego.
Thanks

Im no expert but if it was
Im no expert but if it was me I would be paying the rego. A couple of points come to mind,
- If your boat is insured I suspect it will be a requirement that the boat is registered
- If the purchaser wants to sea trial the baot before purchase then it will need to be registered
- I suspect selling an unregistered boat would be a negative for any potential buyer, this being another added cost when already outlaying the cost of the boat.
Just my two cents worth.

If the rego is not paid, any prospective buyer is going to use that as a bargaining tool.

18 foot Seafarer
My 18 foot Seafarer, that I was going to sell before I bought the 670 BarCrusher, is now for sale. Grey Ghost is registered and insured otherwise Thor and co. would not be happy.

pay it and save the hassles with being talked down. the boat we got was unregistered and was a pain , certainly wont do it again. as mentioned no reg no sea trial. for the amount you pay out you will get back in the sale as they cant use that as a price drop

Selling for $3500
$250 for a $3500 boat - not sure it is worth it. Don't care too much about the price just want it gone. FootHills Marine stuffing around.
