Big garfish for ballooning

Hey everyone,

Is anybody able to please point me in the direction of some decent sized gardies for ballooning? Can't seem to find any and was hoping somebody had noticed some for sale somewhere...

Thanks in advance for any help!

I generally get mine from oceanside as they stock one of the other brands (polar bait I think) and they do the bigger ones. Tailor work really well if you cant find gardies.

BCF usually stock the pencil gardies but Oceanside and Bluewater both stock broad-backs which are heaps better.

If you've got a spare few

If you've got a spare few hours go down to south mole and catch some fresh ones. Can't beat fresh bait and its not a bad way to spend a lazy morning. They're actually pretty good fun on light gear too.

I picked some up today from Bluewater scarbs, they had a few packs of the middle sized ones still which we're not much smaller and more in the pack. Also Oceanside had some that looked a good size for what your looking for

Gardies

Tue, 2013-05-07 09:45

Hey Guys,

Thats correct we do stock the storm size gardies BUT at the moment the boats who supply us are not catching any hence we have none instock. We would assume this would be a universal thing across the board. As soon as the boats catch them we will have them!

i've never used helium, but if balooning normally i use several small ones- say 3 or 4 to get you out. it seems to 'tumble' over more and catch the wind a bit more hence more effective (i think just using 1 big one might be not really get caught by the wind??????????)

if you want the baits to

Wed, 2013-05-15 13:48

if you want the baits to skip and smash down on the surface use helium. Baloon line should be on a swivel running free on mainline. From that same swivel tie a small piece of 12lb mono and the other end to the swivel that attaches your mainline to your wire trace. This holds the baloon in place but will break and run free once a fish strikes. Saves your baloon and makes cliff gaffing easier.
