Anybody running a Furuno FCV-295 ?
Submitted by JW on Thu, 2013-04-04 21:06
I am looking to get one.
Some Questions:
Would you buy it again knowing what you know now?
Are the worth the money?
Which transducer are you running?
Any "add-ons" you would get with it?
Cheers in advance.

I'm running one with a 38hz
I'm running one with a 38hz 2kw for super deep. Started with a 2kw 50hz but the 38hz is shit loads better! Better bottom hardness and detail. and a 1kw 200hz for shallower. I'm selling my boat (Ali) to get a glass boat so I can mount in hull. The only thing Il do different in the new boat is get a 1kw 200hz broadband. And I might go to a FCV 1150 just cause!
Any one free to help me pull my drum lines tomorrow?

another questions
thanks all for your input so far...
Now I rang a company to get a quote today and he said that I will be paying for power I wont use...
So... I fish from around 20m to 120m normally.
I would like to do some deep drops around 200m in the future but are not yet setup for it.
So is the guy right, the FCV587 will be more than plenty for my needs??
Again, thanks in advance.

I have an FCV587, more than adquate to 20om.
With a 600 W thru hull, read to 150 m at 25 knots on 200 kHz. With the 1 kW HD 50 kHz, took it to 300 m and saw fish, but had to go slow.

And the screen is bigger, if
And the screen is bigger, if you can fit it and afford it get the 295. We`ve had ours for over 4 years and its been great. Running furuno trannys in a wet box, 2 kw 200 and 1 kw 50( can look the numbers up if you want) recommended by taylor marine when we bought the unit and have never turned it to 50 out to 150 metres. In shallow it fries them in batter for you ;-)

Furuno 587
Thx all for your advice to date!
Now after pricing the units I will have to settle for the 587 for now.
The guy at Whitworths said the 600 Watt transducer that comes with the unit is more than adequate.
He reckons they sell a lot of the 587 units and he can only ever recall one guy come back to upgrade to the 1KW transducer.
So... I fish from around 20m to 120m normally.
Question now is do I need the 1KW transducer....?
Cheers

Hi JW,Although I run 2 x
Hi JW,
Although I run 2 x FCV295s nowadays with various transducers I think you are on the right track with the 587. For the depth you are working in (up to 120 metres) the 600w transducer will be OK but I would seriously consider the 1kw. As a different perspective few people have ever regretted the upgrade from 600w to 1kw either! I have good stocks of 587's, 600w and 1kw transducers and can definitely compete against Whitworths. We also pull the unit out of the box and set it up for you (not just the transducer selection) so you are off to a head start. We are also offering $250 cash back on 587's on top of a great price. Let me know if we can help!
