Advice re outfit for mulloway fishing

Looking for some advice re the line to spool my new reel with.
I'm getting a Savage Gear 7' Roadrunner and a Stradic FK 5000 today for river fishing. Going for mulloway and bream mostly. I haven't done any freshwater fishing yet, but have been planning for it over the last few weeks.
I just want to ask, would you spool this up with braid and use a mono/fluorocarbon leader or just go all mono with a heavier leader? Thanks.

Also, if you don't think this
Also, if you don't think this rod and reel combo is right for hunting mulloway, any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers.

For river fishing
i would actually go mono with a heavier leader. Mainly because you don't have to cast all that far, and it gives better abrasion resistance. Plus mono is cheap!

On a 5000 sized reel go
On a 5000 sized reel go braid for sure. If you want straight mono you'll be better off going for a larger reel/setup.

If you plan
On fishing for bream and mulloway in the river i reccomend 2 different combos the 5000 is plenty for any mulloway in the swan spool it with 30lb braid you really dont need any more then 200m on it and for bream a small 2500 or 1000 sized reel with 8lb braid would be perfect i have done alot of river fishing and we normally put one rod out for mulloway whilst using another rod to spin for tailor or lure fish for flathead bream etc deffs need the two combos imo
wont catch em sitting at home!

Good call mate. Yeah, I was thinking exactly the same strategy when I got to the store. Will be looking for a cheaper rod and reel combo soon to fish for bream, tailor, etc.

Thanks for the advice. Got everything this morning. Have the reel spooled with 9.1kg Sufix and have some 25kg flourocarbon for the leader.

For livey fishing I would
For livey fishing I would say 20lb braid mainline + 40 - 50lb fluoro leader. When I do this I use circle(s) depending on livey.
For trying to dead bait river fish I rely on 20 - 30lb mono mainline + 40 - 60lb fluoro leader. I tend to use an Albright / Alberto / Worm Knot sorta for both braid and mono and seems to work well. Hatch and Trav stake both legit claims. A lot to do for me with conditions you fish in. All the best bro \m/.

Wishing you great results.

If you haven't already
If you haven't already learned a good leader knot, get into the FG/FC knot. Best casting knot around.
