Garden Island Snapper

Garden Island Snapper

I finally got a chance to go out in a boat the other day, (Tuesday) the first for quite some time. It was my brother inlaws boat and three of us went out. Myself, brother inlaw George and brother inlaw Harry. Brother inlaw Harry was over from New Zealand and hadn't done any fishing before, so he was pretty keen too. We decided to go out behind Garden Island and try our luck, but it was very quiet and we tried quite a few different spots. We used heaps of berley continuously and also had a berley pot suspended about a metre or so down as well. Nothing seemed to work for quite a while. I tried one line with a soft plastic lure which I pretty much just left set out and used variouse baits on the other. The only fish I've caught on soft plastic's before were a few small bream. All of a sudden I got a screamer of a run on the soft plastic and after a decent struggle and head shakes a nice snapper of around 5.5kg came aboard. That certainly made my day and worth the wait. A fair bit later Harry also got a huge run and being his first ever fish it took a while and you would off thought it was a marlin Laughingthe way he was going on, but he was one happy fisho when it finally came on board. About 6kilos.

So that was it for the day, a couple of happy fisho's and one not so happy but we'll all get to share the on the barbecue and as raw fish anyway. No other fish at all for the day but I'm not complainning..
