yes i bought a jeep

before i start please be kind - that means you jackfrost

Had my Jeep KL trailhawk for a bit over 3 years now - idiot i know

in that time the car has had rear axle seals replaced

The rear RDM replaced?

The driveshaft replaced

New battery

parking sensors fixed mutliple times, all seemed to be going great after a few months and jeep gave me a one year extended waranty. least the wankers could do, this all went doen hill 2 days ago. was at the intersection on mandurah and pinjarra road at the mandurah forum, went to take off from the lights and lost power and accelaeration. this was followed by some weired noises. had to pull over for a bit, turned back on and seemed ok, drove around the corner and got as far as work clobber on pinajarra road on my way to jeep to get it lloked at.

The all heel broke loose, squealling noises, grinding noises (all very loud) the check engine light came on and service transmission light came on. had to pull over and finally gota tow to jeep.

This car is an absaloute joke, we dont have lemon laws in australia and i am getting know were with jeep. they have now said its a seperate issue as they have said its a power transfer unit which has not previusly broke. so they will just replace, worst case is whole new drive train. does anyone know where i may be ale to get help, the dept of fair trading said to lodge a complaint if jeep does not help. but cant see that being much use

Trade Practices Act provides good protection

Thu, 2019-02-28 11:48

Manufacturers MUST provide goods fit for purpose and clearly this lemon isn't fit for anything, trouble is they only have to repair it .........if they seek to avoid their obligations then you have recourse via the Trade Practices commissioner.  I got very close to buying one but opted for a Prado which has touch wood provides seamless operation but have heard and seen many stories like yours not that that is any consolation

Try Choice magazine

Thu, 2019-02-28 12:15

I would join Choice and take it up with them. It's less than $30 for a quarterly membership and they do a lot to help members. Lemon vehicles is a big issue for them.

I'm sorry to hear you've had so many issues with your Jeep. I'm not sure if it's the model or Jeep's in general but I've had a Grand Cherokee from new in 2014 and so far it has given me close to 100,000km withoput any hassles except for a cracked aircon condenser housing. Admittedly that has been mostly on bitumen but I towed a camper trailer to Exmouth last year and drove it pretty hard in 40 degree plus temps. Maybe I just got lucky!

the obvious option (from the outside looking in!) is, once you have it back after repairs - sell it! - it is not likely to get better with age

understand - but the value of the car is most likely going to drop much faster than the loan will be repaid - that is - the longer you wait the bigger the difference will be- add to that - once the warranty is out, you will be footing the bill for repairs! (ouch!)
if you can restructure it in anyway into another car, it would be best to do it now whilst the Jeep still has "more value"

without upsetting the apple

Thu, 2019-02-28 16:32

without upsetting the apple cart - avoid anything European, American, Mexican, chinese or indian (Tata!!!)
I am biased but Toyota are pretty rock solid - have had a few cars and most of them have been toyo 4x4's which have had varying degrees of love - the poorest candidate was my old 97 troopy (the speedo stopped @ 360,000k's 5 years prior to me buying it of my mate)after 6 years of solid service as a tow-jo, trailer, kids cubby house and car to take out on evenings where copious amounts of alcohol would be consumed (leave it at pub and pick up next day) I sold it (4 years ago) and it is still going strong in Broome I'm told
That said - I think any Japanese (BT50, Navara, Triton etc) would be ok - a guy in my street has an amarok which supposedly puts out more KW than my 200s - getting 200kw out of a 3 litre diesel engine will at some point be its un-doing!

Thu, 2019-02-28 17:01

no car is fail-proof but you really want to make sure its got good service history - modern diesels run really high pressures through the fuel system and the output today compared to a few years ago is exponentially higher - meaning the tolerances are less -
I am ranting now I know! - just means if it has been serviced to schedule to are less likely to have issues - good luck!

If giving advice you should at least be aware of where things are made. None of BT-50, Navara nor Triton are made in Japan. The BT-50 was made in latin america for some time before moving to Thailand and South Africa. Navara and Triton are made in Thailand.

No good at all Shane, reminds me of the guy over east, I think he ended up burning his Jeep after similar issues.

Quality = fitness for purpose

Fri, 2019-03-01 00:17

Fit for purpose, Those three words are your back stop. If I may suggest, I think it would be a good idea to make an appointment with consumer repairs after you have got the vehicle back from jeep and ask them face to face what are your options if (repeat) it breaks down again.

Then your options are coming straight from the horses mouth so as to speak From experience I know that some of the consumer protection bodies move heaven and earth to get the purchaser satisfaction with the object they have purchased and that the object is "fit for the purpose" for which it is advertised and promoted.

My understanding of the legislation is that the first action to be taken is that the object must be returned to the place from which you purchased it and the seller must have the opportunity to repair or replace the item, most go for the repair option. They can't shift the responsibility back to the manufacture as they the retailer of the item and the responsibility is theirs and theirs alone.

It may take a bit of toing and froing but in the end you will get an acceptable result, just be patient as it will take a bit of time and steadfastness (belligerent) together with curtsey and manners remember the people you are dealing with didn't make the car and are more than likely just as upset as you about the situation.
Good luck
