Who's Heading out Tomorrow
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2016-04-12 14:08
I've had 4 hours TOIL up my sleeve since November and haven't had a chance to head out for a half day bash on a work day due to meetings and school drop off but tomorrow is gonna be the day! Planning on getting down early and punching out straight through the gap at Hillarys and finding some lumps to drift over... don't reckon I'll even need to get out the wanker. Fish caught, washed down, return boat, shower and at work by 1pm!

Defies belief that some
Defies belief that some cockwipes would actually place their pots in the gap. You got miles of reef and they place their pots in the one little gap that gives you access through the reef.

I won the race out to the gap........only to fish all day and have an absolute mare.......we saw dollies jumping but could not temp them, tuna on the surface that would not take a lure, and final had a surface tuna strike only for it to pull the hooks after a few minutes, a couple of big hook ups on the deep drop that "we"....I mean Bodie....dropped......for a grand sum total of ZERO FISH all day. It happens.
Conditions were PERFECT.
Only upside is we burnt a lot of fuel to assist with global warming and next years pelagic season.......

Here I was hoping you'd catch a salmon on a 1000 reel with 6lb line and 1-2kg rod to show me how it's done

LOL
We fished a lot lighter than your 30lb braid snowman and didn't come close to getting spooled.![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/thumbs_up.gif)

Experience
Jack, i'm not sure what your level of fishing experience is, if it's high then please dont think I'm patronising you.
Metro salmon season is the PERFECT time to practice fighting fish on light gear, getting multiple hookups on the boat, dancing around the other hooked up blokes, keeping fish away from the prop etc. They are fair fighters, they don't try and reef you so you're a fair chance to knock one off on light gear. 6lb is more than enough, provided you're not in the middle of a group of other boats who have no idea, but I wouldn't be using $27 lures in future though. Save those for hard to tempt fish.![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/thumbs_up.gif)
Good luck with it all. Cheers, John

Cheers mate and my boat
Cheers mate and my boat fishing experience is green at best apart from pulling bream out of snags upriver in the dinghy. Definitely keen to have another crack at them on my bream gear but like I said I had the sea anchor out and had the drag set for having a bit of fun with whiting on the 1-2kg rod and was smoked before I could react and at least tighten the drag but like you said it all comes with experience. What sort of fisherman would I be if I didn't have a raft of excuses for dropping a fish?? Got me some Smiling Jacks now rather than using my mackie lures but pretty keen to chuck some cheap poppers out when they are nailing the surface!

Look on your chart. It's the only gap in the reef straight out from the marina that maintains a depth >5m. Only to be used on a small swell and I snake through it to make sure I stay in the deeper water
