Whats worse than a wobbegong in your craypot

Left 4 pots in the water after the white run and have been pulling every 3 to 4 days weather permitting and getting between 5 and 8 per pull which we thought was doable. One got stuck a while back and being old and not a great catcher we decided to abandon it so catch has been from 3.

Been using old bait and fish heads, frames  etc and idea was to leave them till all bait finished which happened last Tuesday.

Pulling the 2nd pot we agreed it was pretty heavy and hoped for a better than usual catch, but alas, when we got the pot up we saw a wobbegong. Also 3 crays in the pot, so working out how to not lose the crays and also not get bitten we failed to notice that there was not one but 2 wobbys in the pot so there was a head on either side making things very tricky

We turned the pot around so the gate was facing out and manouvered the crays so we could hold on to their feelers from outside the pot, opened the gate  and the carefully tipped the buggers out and managed to keep all 3 crays

Was pretty tricky in a pretty ordinary sea Tuesday afternoon

Proibably pull them out today if weather OK at 4:00PM

I appreciate that two wobbies in one pot is a pain though one mans abandon is another mans litter...

Electric ray

Thu, 2021-03-11 13:15

Wait till you try to pull an electric ray out of a pot, found out later its best to drop it back over the side and let it find its own way out.

When pulling a wobby out use a big shark hook on a bit of rope and hook it in to its nose and pull like buggery

Have eaten wobby before

Have eaten wobby before, but found it very difficult to fillet and a low return ratio. Happy to let them go and hope they dont find their way back in very soon

Bigger is best

With wobbies, bigger they are the better eating they are.

When filletting remember to cut from the inside of the skin , not the outside otherwise your knifes edge isn't going to last more than a couple of cuts
