Whats the best butterfly jigs?
Submitted by Braxi on Tue, 2013-01-08 21:32
Hi, I have seen a fair few people using butterfly or knife jigs and it looks like there has been a fair bit of success. I live just out of Karratha and was wondering if there were any types, sizes, colours, brands that would be recommended for out wide. Ive had some luck with soft plastics out wide but would love to try something new. Cheers.

I've used those shimano
I've used those shimano butterfly jigs out wide here before, they got smashed but after 5 drops at $15 a go and mack cuts them off it turns out to be damn expensive. There's alot toothy fish up here that love jigs! I tried them with a little bit of wire but no success. I still have a few eBay specials I put down for a bit of fun just don't expect to get em back

Hi mate, I think the term
Hi mate,
I think the term "butterfly" jig is used only by shimano for their flutter style jigs, if I am not wrong. So you must be referring to Shimano then. Essentially the butterfly jig has asymmetrical sides which accounts for the irregular flutter action.
Daiwa has similar style jigs called Sacrifice leaf.
Another good flutter style jig is Evergreen Caprice and their equivalent knock-off at cheaper price called Fanky. Just do a search in FW and you'll be able to see some pics. Alternatively, google 'em.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that
Thanks, that explains a bit for me. Any recommendations on sizes? I have a Jigging Master Ocean Devil overhead rod rated 100-225 grams. Would I be better going the upper size or the smaller. I have seen some pretty big jigs that fish have taken from some of the photos on here but not sure on the size to weight ratio.
