watched a fishing show

watched a fishing show to day that made me laugh , they said the eastury cods favorite food was mud crabs and they swallow them whole , got to say any fish that can swallow a big muddy live and have it in its guts live is a bloody tough fish

Having seen it with my own

Having seen it with my own eyes, I would say live butteries are possibly an estuary cods favorite meal.  My daughter says she has a bite...  feels like a bait fish....  Hang on, its bigger than a bait fish....  pulls up both a buttery AND an estuary cod on the one hook.  Suspect the buttery took it first and then the estuary cod decided that looked like a nice meal. ...

Catch the live bait and the target fish with one cast ;)

Not sure about whole muddies

Not sure about whole muddies Peter, but an Aboriginal guy up North took me out for my first Bluebone sessionmany years ago. Best bait was whole Mudcrab claw ...the big blues just swallowed then done no problem. We filled the esky in no time, Is was a real education fishing with these guys.

Read it somewhere in fishing

Read it somewhere in fishing mag that estuary cod does swallow muddies the size of a large dinner plate whole!

I have caught cods that spat out smaller muddies so I can imagine bigger cods will wolf down the crab whole.

I could be wrong though.

Yep, had cod regurgitate half decomposed mud crab.  Farkin stinks!

This also goes to show that fish dont feel pain, imagine trying to eat a live mudcrab!  so all the greenie tree huggers can piss off!
