Tuesday swell

Hey guys. Hoping to get out Tuesday for a fish. Bit of swell so trying to decide whether to stay in close or if likely to be ok out a bit deep (40s). Looks like about 2m forecast. Normally I try stick to below 1.5. If the wind does what it's supposed to do reckon might be ok, don't mind if just rolling etc decent swell period so thinking hopefully just a bit of bobbing up and down?? Anyone have any opinions on whether seems like a good idea? Fairly capable boat, 23ft fibreglass. Just hoping to save some time and avoid going halfway then changing plans if possible. Hoping someone could give an indication on what these conditions would equate to out deep.

any thoughts greatly appreciated!

cheers!

Thankfully I've cleared the decks so to speak and had planned taking any day off this week to get out. Geez how shitefull the forecast is for the next week or so after Wednesday. Very frustrating, as I've always said there's a natural demersal ban on through most of summer anyway with the strong seabreezes.

If you've looked at the weather and your

asking on here ?   probably not a good

idea .   it's about confidence in your boat

And ability to do it safely. Cheers pirate.

I've gone out and done a pot

Mon, 2024-12-16 17:57

I've gone out and done a pot check with my son who was about 14 at the  time in a 3m swell pulled 1 pot got way more crays than we were allowed  but had him at the wheel the whole time told him to just keep us facing into the waves. He did an an amazing job just at idle  boat sat nicely.  When I went to reset pot we hadn't moved off the spot at all.

They replaced both plugs

Tue, 2024-12-17 12:55

So obviously corrosion had effected their performance.  Not bad given it is 20yo

That is good to know, one of my back plugs is broken and I can only just force the power lead on. Will get it done over winter and maybe they can sor the delamination out too. Such an awesome unit.

 we ended up heading out

Wed, 2024-12-18 14:00

we ended up heading out yesterday and stayed n close tos ee if any snapper around. massive breakers coming over the reef and quite a strong wind.

certainly not a morning to head out deep

was prety crumby conditions in close, nothing worrying, ., just annoying trying to get reef anchor to hold etc, and certainly no luck with any fish except for 1 big wobbygong and a baby snaper.

once wind dropepd was actulay quite nice. big swells though, and early on the spray off the back of the breakers was impressive!.

on a plus we checked our pots on the way in and got our only decent haul yet this season!. 12 in the first pot with 3 big jumbos with berries thrown back, and next pots had 4 and 3. so slavaged the day.

should have slept in tho lol!seabreeze had it pretty wrong. willy seemed to be a bit more accurate.

Fri, 2024-12-20 10:26

It was showing a 25 knot norwester yesterday at lunchtime but now is a bit better.

Still Windy is saying 3 knots, gusting to 18 knots before lunch.
