Trolling/Boating etiquitte

Twice this year I have had a pattern with teasers cut off by another boat cutting across the stern. It does not take much of an effort to stay back +30 metres.

Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

It took bagloads of effort to refrain from action/comment when the clowns pulled up along side me at O/Reef later that day.

So Mr Grey Rhib with the pirate flag, count ya blessings that I ended up having a good day.....and you owe me a new Witchdoctor.

I'd definitely at least have

I'd definitely at least have had a word to the guy. No need to roll up hurling sinkers straight off the bat but if he had plenty of room and then cut off your whole spread I sure as hell would say something!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

How far out are you running

How far out are you running your teasers? Would have to virtually touch my transom to get anywhere near my witch doctors.

A couple of weeks ago heading

Mon, 2013-03-25 14:33

A couple of weeks ago heading out to the islands and travelling via Hells Gates, there were people ballooning off the back of the live cray factory, not just 30 or 40 meters, but right across the channel to the reef on the other side.

Most crayboats coming in use this channel as well as alot of amateur boats and it was on a busy sunday morning, not an evening.

I slowed down but there was no way round by the time I saw the balloon. Pulled my props later and found braid in both but luckily hadnt got past the nylon ring.

a real pain as you cant go close to the rocks under the line cos thats where all the normal folk have a line in, no problem.

This is a little different to the metro beach ballooning scenario as this is a well used channel.

Everyone's just winging it.

I have had my shotgun lures

Mon, 2013-03-25 15:09

I have had my shotgun lures cut off twice by other boats in the last few months. Pretty annoying. Doesn't take much to turn your wheel a few degrees.

I would have

Mon, 2013-03-25 17:39

I would have certainly pulled up along side him/her and asked them to check the leg of their motor to see if there was line and possibly lures wrapped around the prop.

Sadley I have to agree with what uncle says we are sadly loosing all the things that make us different from the other animals

its happened to me too many

its happened to me too many times
i have never lost any gear but mostly my sense of humour - its really obvious to pretty much anyone when another boat is trolling -even if it is not obvious what is the point of when i am travelling at 6-8 knots blasting across my stern?

Last weekend was just dickhead city on the ocean and river -one guy was doing at least 20+knots through the harbour - where are the police?? down at blackwall reach chasing kids jumping off the cliff - not having a crack at the boys in blue -just more frustration that no one has any common sense on the river anymore (ok well maybe most do -select few dh's as usual)
