Sunday report (pic added)
So it's up at 4.30 am for the hour and a half drive to the Bird with oldest son and his best mate who's never caught a Dhuie before all very excited to have a crack as it's been so long. Not sure of what to expect weatherwise as it changed so much through the week, but we were stinging to get out once we saw the water literally lapping on the beach.
Launch and out to a shallow water mark in 23m and son's mate is hooked straight away to a nice Banger, 5 mins later and he pulls in a nice Blackarse so he's pumped.
But I wanted to get out wide and explore knowing we had time on our side. Into the 40's and I'm on first drop to another nice Banger. So we headed further out and I nailed the two Baldies on Mulies. Son drops a a very light placcy as there was no drift and gets smashed by something huge, he battles it for around 5 mins before it smokes him.
He now agrees with me he's fishing too light as this is the second time it's happened him and what I reckon are probably dream Dhuies. So we bag out and the boys want to drop Jigs on top of the Tanais reef, very rare that we can fish on there so I sit on the wheel motor running it was good condition wise on there but was taking no chances. Anyway we are in 6m of water and the sounder is showing all kinds of crazy shit big bommies etc. So Dylan gets smashed on his light rod first and pulls in a massive Black arse, next Rory drops his Octo and bang!!! Something big is on his Gomoku with blistering runs and he's shitting himself about getting bricked I get a glimpse and it looks like a massive Pinky, I'm thinking it has to be the power display this thing is putting on. Anyway he gets on top of it and up comes a 7kg Dhuie as brown as seaweed, a true resident. Quick photo and release, high fives all round for a super day.
Little bit of sounder porn, I only use the fish symbols because I can't see the sounder very clearly from the back of the boat, bad eyesight in my older age lol.
Could've gone for a night fish with those conditions
