sounder advice

Hi guys, after some sounder advice please.
My wife just generously purchased a garmin gps echo map / fish finder for me.
I already have a garmin 172c 2004 model gps and a fish easy 240 2005 model fish finder.
So I have a couple questions.
1. Is there much difference in the gps models, as I guess fishing maps would not have changed to much over the years.
2. Am I better off exchanging the new gps for a decent fish finder and keep using the older gps.
I'm fairly new to the boating / fishing game so any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers guys.

If you put a good quality
If you put a good quality Garmin 600W medium Chirp thru hull keel or fairing mounted (this bit is crucial.....) on the echo map it will provide brilliant performance.
Transom mount, you are on your own.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

My boat came with 2x
My boat came with 2x Humminbird units and I replaced one with a Furuno 627 and kept the better one as a dedicated plotter, best thing I ever did. If you are going to run two I'd definitely suggest that you go down the line of a unit that's sole purpose is to find ground/fish with a unit that is your GPS next to it.
Officially off the Pies bandwagon
