Rod failure

So i've had quite the 24 hours, started with a massive high after buying a Demon blood 762xh and a 10000 saragosa for an upcoming trip to Exmouth to throw stickbaits and poppers. Loaded it up in the store with the salesman along with 4-5 others in the price bracket and it felt really nice, strong as an ox, the parabolic action something to behold. Then this morning happened! My mate come past to have a look so i grabbed it out of the bag for the first time since i got it home, handed it over and let him load it up in the exact same manner as the salesman in the store. Rod butt dug into his hip and rod tip touching the carpet and as the weight came on....crack! I couldn't believe it, my heart sank and i instantly felt sick in my stomach. I collected myself, called up the store and took it in for them to check it over.

Because it failed directly above the foregrip where the blank slides into the butt, the storeman said it makes it very hard for a warranty to be approved but took my details anyway and i left it with them.

So i'm a bit lost as to where i stand exactly and if i even have a chance of getting a replacement or repair done. The rods beautiful and would be more than happy to get a replacement but after speaking with the salesman i'm bracing for the worst and walking away at a loss.

Thanks in advance

I've dealt with Diawa before

I've dealt with Diawa before about a rod my son snapped and admitted as much and they were brilliant to deal with. Got a new $190 rod for $90 because  they no longer stocked the tip piece I needed.

At worst you'll likely get a replacement at cost if they deem it your fault.

 You will probably find  it

You will probably find  it actually snapped when you were testing it in the shop or when someone else tested it.  It developed a small flaw in the graphite and you sent it over the edge at home and would probably have happened any way on the first good fiish.  Good luck with proving it.  I have snapped 3 saltiga rods and they have been replaced. They snapped in wierd ways though and found out later that it was faulty blanks. Worst case they should replace the top half at cost.

snapping it at the base would be the perfect reason for it to be replaced. the 200 and 400 t cuve jig rods were bad for snapping In different spots

It is always difficult for

Sun, 2017-02-26 14:53

It is always difficult for retailers as most distributors don't want to hear about it and won't honour the so called warranty even if it does look to be be a manufacturing issue or a defective product. The customer will always argue black and blue and threaten to contact ACCC or what not and its often the retailer that gets stung. My attitude is that if you give leave the customer with a sour taste in your shop then they most likely won't come back or spend as much so sometimes you take a loss and keep the customer long term. A smile costs nothing. Most guys are happy to do some sort of deal and if not, is the wholesale price of a rod worth losing a customer for?

I was once told by a well known australian brand to honour all of their broken rods always and they will back us up. He explained that people will use their rods and when they catch a good fish, they will tell their mates how great of a rod it is and word of mouth is the best advertising. Another Jap brand we stocked, never got a warranty ever and a couple of fishwrecked members on here (Abeldog?) might still have nightmares.

Good luck with this

Mon, 2017-02-27 05:27

One of the first expensive rods i purchased was a Penn graphite boat rod. Purchased for a week trip to the Mackerel islands. One of the first fish i caught on this rod was a 10+kg longtail tuna and the rod was simple the best bit of fishing gear i had ever handled. The second fish caught on the rod was a 500g cod that took a lure almost as big as itself when we pulled up the boat and were reeling in the lures preparing for some bottom action. The rod snapped just below the second eye as i was reelin it in.

Luckily i had a back up rod for the trip.

When i took it back to the shop they tried to get the Penn rep to honour the warranty to no avail. The shop then blew me off with no more than an offer to sell me a new one.  Last time i walked into that shop and last Penn purchased by me.

Seems like alot of dissatisfied anglers not getting the benefit of the doubt. As bad as it is i'm glad it happened here and not out the back of the Murions.

Thats unlucky Merv, my fingers are still crossed the Daiwa rep comes to the party. Haven't heard anything yet but will keep everyone posted
