Question- Bream/Blowie related
Submitted by ADDICT- dUFFMAN on Sun, 2010-07-25 12:58
I have been fishing Garrett Road bridge for the past 5 months
Getting Black Bream consistently most trips with 0 blowies
This weekend there has been a huge influx of Blowies ( for teh first time ever)
This means all i caught was blowies as they kept beating the bream to the bait
Why are blowies moving up stream?
Shouldnt they be pushed downstream with these rains as i presume they cant survive in freshwater???
Also are there any good downstream spots were there are bream but the blowies are less prolific?/
Also one old guy at a tackle shop told me to try further upstream (of ascot) - - is he right should i go upstream, because i though tthe bream should also move downstream.
Thanks

from my understanding the
from my understanding the blowies can adapt to fresher water , so there is realy no hope. there are plenty of spots down stream for bream but unfortunately the blowies are even worse for stealing bait.try the hard body lures , they seem to work for others

i thought blowies were really hardy too, that made me thought about keeping them for the aquarium for fun, but oh boy do they die fast, the wrong salinity in the water made them froth up and die in 1-3 hrs

you will find the sudden
you will find the sudden change of salinity would do that. a gradual change would be different

less blowies at dusk bream
less blowies at dusk bream fishing using bait, when the sun goes down the bream go on hyperdrive searching for bait especially when the tide is high.

Fast water...
blowies usually hate it...they're not very efficient swimmers so if you pick a time when the tide is really moving through you shouldn't have too much trouble.
I really believe that one of the main reasons we see more and more blowies is because of all the bait/berley used in sheltered waters. I'm not much of a bream fisho but I do a lot of fishing in the Peel estuary for herring/skippy/tailor/salmon and I find that softies and hardbodies worked quickly through moving water account for at least as many fish as bait does. If everyone used lures I reckon blowie populations wouldn't be so concentrated, since they're not getting a free smorgasbord.
