out riggers

hi all,

have been looking at some out riggers for my boat (5.4 trailcraft profish).  These are the ones i've been looking at;

I'm not really sure on what would best suit my boat?  I don't want to spend heaps (probably up to $300) so does anyone have any ideas on a where I can get a decent set from or whether the above would be suitable or not?

 Plan to install them before heading up to exmouth so hope to use them to help catch my first billi!!!;)

Running exactly the same set on my boat  at the moment and am very happy with them , as long as yo have a decent are to set in the bases and have the angle of the outriggers correct you should be right .

11ft riggers, would suit

11ft riggers, would suit your boat being a 5.4m Wayne, your going to have trouble finding a set of riggers, rigged and with bases for what your looking at spending mate!

They are a pricey bit of equipment, we have them rigged up ready to go with bases at work for around the $650 mark

If you chasing billfish and its a one off thing or you might be doing it once a year sort of thing, then running 2 rods with a witchdoctor teaser and some other bird teaser will do you fine and will still get you your stickface

Sam - as there are two of us fishing off the boat we plan to be running four lines out so i thought something like outriggers, or the above would help to keep the front two lines out...

btw sam, where do you work? may come n check out what u guys have....

If you plan to spend most of the trip trolling for billfish then outriggers of 11-16ft are good....prices $695-$1000 ball park. If your only chasing them as a side line thing to your northern trip then i agree with Sam. I would run two rods spread apart then a shot gun line (long way back) so your lines wont tangle and no o/riggers required.

riggers

Unless trolling alot not really worth getting outriggers for a metro boat (personal opinion), You could spend the 1000 bucks better on tackle or other boat options that would get a regular work out, electric anchor winch, deck wash ect.
But if using regular, outriggers are great we run a set of reelax gunnel mount with 4.5 mt poles on a 18ft boat. Like anything these days you get what you pay for.
