Ocean Reef Leading Line

Will the leading line be fine with a 3m swell. Thinking of hitting it in the dark on Saturday to fish the 3 mile. I've gone through the Hillarys' GAP up to 2.5m but think I will give Saturday a miss going through the GAP with predicted swell size and use the leading line. Very harry in the dark.

Even on the leading line it can break . Been caught out before in heavy swell as it breaks all across the gap in the 3 mile . I wouldn't be going in the dark that's for sure

Given the current catches I would be sounding out the fish in shallow water, flick for a few squid, fresh bait and berley, berley, berley.

There’s a shallow bank only a 300m or so off that lead line about 3km offshore that jacks up pretty heavily even in moderate to small swell. I’d strongly suggest avoiding the area in a heavy swell especially at night.

"Thinking of hitting it in the dark on Saturday to fish the 3 mile" fffff that!

3m swell is fine until you get one catching up to the another - then you end up with a 4-5m+ swell which is how freak waves occur- bad enough during the day let alone at night - we got hit by one behind rotto in a 36 foot boat and we were lucky not get in serious trouble
Stay safe :-)

That would have made the night exciting if the fishing hadn.t, big waves at night always make you heart pick up pace well mine used to anyway.

my. Advice is 3 mt swell in the dark you stay along way from the reef and channels unless you have a good rig and are confident , the gap is not a registered channel so keep away from there , if the swells are up just stay away from any reefs after dark if you just want to catch fish , I am a memeber of local sea rescue and witness to many accidents in these conditions ,  head out and go where there no reefs and channels until the swell drops
