NZ landbased reel?
Submitted by EL SYD on Fri, 2013-09-13 11:45
Heading off to New Zealand for a month of landbased fishing for Kings, just chasing some ideas on over head reel choice as I want to get some custom overhead rods built for the trip, casting types or livebaiting dont matter.
No need to suggest spin reels have that covered
cheers syd

wide choice
Diawa saltist BG50
Shimano torium 30 (50 is good for shark /ballooning, takes some casting though)
Penn 545 or fathom
All good midrange price reels
Higer end
Saltiga reels
Shimano Trinidads
Penn Torque
All good reels, size would depend on the line capacity you require.
I fish with the Saltist bg50, new Slosh 50,
and Penn 545
All hold a reasonable amount of line and cast well.
I also have an Avet overhead. nice for chucking spoons but a lttle short on the line capacity side.

I've asked this same question
I've asked this same question before, and the Penn Torque has been refered to as well,
As for casting large overheads with bait, this poses no drama to me. The grounds where I will be fishing are deep drop offs at my feet.
just chasing some new bling for the trip
have a good stable of saltiga overhead jigging reels and the trinidad specials as well as the tiagras.
what about Jigging master? or the marquesa from finnor, SOM, any feed back on these as casting reels, say like compared to a saltiga 50 and a trinidad 40? what size reels would compare?
Cheers syd
