North Lefroy Bay

Hello all,
I am helping out a mate who is going up to NLB in 3 weeks time. He asked if I could post asking for any heads up to the fishing.
He has a small 12 ft tinny.
Just wondering if the inside of the reef is like Exmouth where snapper are quite prolific. Is the reef gap very far from shore?
Thanks in advance.

Tell ya mate
theres a semi formal rock ramp in the middle of Lefroy bay and the gap is basically straight out in front.
Very clearly marked on all charts and quite easy to navigate in most conditions (especially those that he would be out in)

On good days there are plenty
On good days there are plenty of Spangleds, Snappers and trevally on the inside, thought some days can be very quite.
Anchoring and burleying worked great for us. Lost a couple of fish to sharks but was never too big a problem.
We always did better fishing just after dark on the beaches down from the campsites for Spangleds, more of them and generally bigger.
If the gap in the reef straight out is closing out or looks a bit hairy(gets quiet shallow, especially on low tide, not enough to hit but enough to mount swell up and break at times) just head south along the coast on the inside to Norwegian bay then go out there to get outside the reef. Plus there is some fun popping to be had just to the north of the Norwegian Bay(Cloates) Sanctuary on the inside.
Though obviously in a 12ft tinnie you want to pick your day to get outside the reef very carefully as it can get nasty out there quickly in a small boat.
Good luck up there mate.
