Hopetoun fishing (near Esperance)

hey guys,

anyone know what the fishing is like down in Hopetoun? My wife's sister lives down there working on the nickel mine and she is trying to convince me to go down there for a week or two with the kids. I told her only way I'm going if I can take my boat and fish every opportunity I get. The deal has been done. Now I'm wondering what the fishing will be like? Probs be going solo so won't stray to far out. Maybe 10km max. What sort of species do they catch down there? Any information would be great cheers

plenty of fish for the taking  down there mate. Fish the bottom edge of bommies for pinkies,  nannies, queenies, blue groper, black arse, harlequin and occasional dhuies. I've always seemed to do a bit better heading out and travelling a bit south. You won't have much trouble finding ground and getting a good feed of demersals. Weather can turn quickly down that way so keep an eye out.

As mentioned above plenty of good ground in close for demersals. If the weather isn't playing ball you can stay in close and burley up a bunch of bread and butter species.

Plenty of wind and swell down that way sometimes. If you can get out 10klms or so, bulk nanagai, pinkies, Blackarse etc. some thumping leather jackets as well I believe.

They have a half reasonable ramp in Hopetoun so launching isn't too bad. Worst case just go to the pub on the point and have a few beers if the weather is crap.

If you are a shooter, plenty of vermin down that way. Would need property owners permission of course!

When i lived there was mainly catching Queen Snapper, Black arse and nanny's with occasional pinkies and gummies. We would travel 15-20km out. If the wind isnt playing the game herring and squidding at night at the   jetty is good fun with kids  and  hopey has a awesome population of black bream in the rivers.
