cockburn gummys
I used to have some success fishing 18/19m over a muddy bottom out toward garden island but be prepared for a few big rays as well.

gummys
fresh squid heads or 1/2 mullet or skippy fillets worked for me but it has been a few years since I fished for them .

gummys
thanks Ryan
was thinking of sitting on the drop off into the deeper water inside the sound, between Garden & Carnac Islands.
Pigs might fly, but I thought if I burley there hard enough I might attract just about anything !!!

I'm thinking you'll have better luck for them in a month or 2. They're more of a cold water shark

Got 6
Other night in Cockburn.only kept 2.use pilchards small running lead with double hooks(pink rig).100m in from 2nd navy marker.hit the bottom(straight up and down)then lift 1meter of bottom.this will stop 90 percent of sting ray problems.not only will you get gummys you have very high chance of 2 other types of fish.good luck.definately heaps of gummys in sound atm .

Haven't fished this spot since all the snapper restrictions came in.
Occasionally picked up the odd gummie.
Shows nothing on the sounder, and your anchor will come up covered in mud, but smoething down there attracts fish.
Let me know how you go.
Cheers.

Try anchor and berleying near
Try anchor and berleying near the muscle farms for them. I got one mid day a while back on a whole herring on snelled hooks and no weight.

Anchor up between garden and
Anchor up between garden and Carnac, garden side of halfway.
Break up Mulies in your burley bucket and have the bucket about 2m off the bottom (give a GOOD shake every 10 minutes or so); try not to get frustrated and move once the sun goes down and you've already got the burley bucket down - else you have to start again getting the trail out.
Always seem to find it takes a couple of hours for gummys to come in. But can't remember a night time snapper sesh in the sound when I haven't got at least 1 gummy.
I tend to just fish normally for snapper and whilst doing so I have a gummy rig in the water soaking...Heavy running sinker type set up with about a metre between my hook and when the sinker stops at a swivel. Just drop directly under the boat. Live tailor or similar. Suspended about 1.5 to 3m off the bottom (else it will be ray after ray).
Gummys in sound seem to be smaller than I see on TV shows caught elsewhere but it's the only place I've ever caught them and they've always been about the same size over the years.
