Friday Night Fish
Submitted by Bluetonic on Wed, 2012-01-18 19:36
So at this point in time the weather is looking (7.30pm 18/01/2012) awesome for a night fish Friday night - Saturday morning!
How many members would consider night fishing and what results have you had in the past?

ive done a little bit mainly in winter due to more predictable weather
ive found it slow going but its really nice out in the black of night
but you must know your spots you cant see reef braks in the dark
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

I've done a few night fish's, mainly on the 3 mile and a little further past that for little result. But as supervisor said it is a nice experience being out there at night. Also make sure your batteries have good charge to run the lighting.

If you are an experienced
If you are an experienced boater, then in my book there is nothing better than a good night on the water.
Motoring along at night on a glassed off ocean with some tunes on is just awesome. Oh - and you catch more fish at night too ;-)
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I was doing a fair bit of my fishing in the night time before the ban. I was cleaning up with some good Dhu fish. But I did struggle a little with the warmer water temps back then too until they started to cool down again. Haven't been for a night fish for a while though. I used to anchor on some lumps and just wait the night out. I made sure that when I went out, it was still day light so that I could plot a track so that when I came back in at 10 or 11pm, I was confident of not running over any cray floats or reef in the dark of night. I'll probably head out Friday night too if the storms aren't in. The tide looks like it'll be changing about 7:30, 8:00pm. At least all the wrasse are asleep then, so if you catch a fish, it'll be half decent.

Up here in karratha we often
stay on into the night, or on Fridays after work go for a designated night fish.
And yes you better know where you are, or have a good return track, because we have tons of moorings and flaoting object like spill retainers etc in the water up here. Unless I have a very safe track return via shipping lanes at night to Dampier.
Can be a little spooky when you hear the blow or song off a whale as they migrate past, otherwise its a nice chillout.
And no problems with the fish either. Apart from BBone and Coral trout all the targets bite into the night, some more.

I havnt tried drift fishing
I havnt tried drift fishing at night time but anchoring and burlying in the dark is certainly very productive. Its amazing what things come into the shallows to feed under the cover of darkness! Also very peacfull out there at night time. Goodluck!
