You see them doing it on dusk

You see them doing it on dusk sometimes. Great scene when there are dozens of them silhouetted against a sunset while out for a sundowner.

I was on a boat off Roti, West Timor last year and just happened to pivot to see a mackie in what seemed like a 5 second freefall. It blew me away, was so high!

Mate found one flapping on the deck of his pearling boat one morning up off broome. Not too much sport but a very easy feed!

I saw a pod of them do that off Mandurah many years ago. At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.

 Plenty of flying spaniards

Wed, 2013-05-29 19:23

Plenty of flying spaniards in Weipa. Spent 10 days in weipa recently on a fishing trip and got used to the sight of soaring macs on the horizon. Had an awesome experience on just our second day when high speed poppering for queenies. A mackie was hot on the tail of my cotton Cordell pencil popper launching at least 5m vertically into the air only to follow up with another attack shortly after and landing in our boat. It hit my mate in the foot and ricochet hitting me in the stomach, nearly throwing me overboard. This fish was at least 18kg and I've never experienced anything on the water like it before. Pity the go pro was on the other boat fishing with us. Would of been awesome footage. True apex predators!

when I was up north I went out to fix one of outer nav aids in Hampton harbour the day was glassed of just perfect conditions , I get on the buoy and are working on the nav aid when I heard this thump and a moan I turn around and my apprentice has been drilled in the thigh but a macky about 20 kgs that had jumped out of the water chasing a bait fish and now was on the deck of the boat , its a true story check with Dell Ward his son was skipper of the boat that day if you don't believe it
