Diving at the Abrolhos

This season is the 1st time you're allowed to dive for crays at the Abrolhos Island and the charter boat we're going on doesn't allow tanks onboard. So we'll be freediving for them this time round, so just after a bit of a heads up from anyones that been there recently or remembers from prior seasons on what sort of depth we're likely to find them (hopefully not too deep). We'll be taking some pots also for insurance, heading out this Sunday.

Cheers Fozz

1fthm edge around all the islands hehe! youll probably only need to get your ankles wet to get them, just stick ya head under a big plate coral and take your pick from the supermarket shelves! good to see the charter boat is only allowing free diving for crays.

The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.

Everyone's just winging it.

We have picked up jumbos from 2m around rockingham, so a spot like the Abrolhos would have them everywhere.

You can freedive for them easy enough as they are mostly in reasonable depths.

Just make sure you give yourself enough surface rest each time as you can get caught out constantly going up and down for them.

If you spot some flat, limestone reefs you're in luck!

I was there this time last year and we were finding 1m wide caves with 20+ crays

North of Big Rat if you're around there, but you'll find them everywhere.. 1-3m is as deep as you'll need
