yeah ive got one that i loan out as a spare jig reel for crew on my boat that dont  have own gear ... loaded with 50lb finns . it does the job pretty well for this . it hasnt had heaps of work but i used it for popper chucking at exmouth as well as bait fishing . . i think you would be happier with the big spheros as well .. but the opus bull is good for its price.

I got one too, the only problem i have seen with them is that the arm bail is 2 piece, and the arm piece will slip out near the part where the line gets re-wound on to the spool. otherwise i have had a few good fish on it without a problem - big eye tuna - sambos- snapper and blue bone- all good fighters - succumbed to the bull. Yea so just make sure its on and fixed in tight.

Took a guy out a few months ago who had a brand new opus bull. Two big hookups and two quick bustoffs at the reel where the roller was. I told him to double check that the arm was tight and it was.

Put me off them a bit. I'll keep using my old trusty 9500ss with PE 5.

opps forgot about the bail arm problem  ... i bought one of the first in the state and yes the bail arm was crap .. the braid would slip into the join and was cutting into the bail (i never snapped off as i found the problem quick) ... was fixed under warranty and the new bail is fine

Penn SSM

Wed, 2008-12-10 13:44

Don't forget Tasckle shack have all the SSM reels for 115 bucks can't beat that for value, I would go with PE3 or PE5 on it, you could allways upgrade the drag to carbontex but there pretty good straight out the box.

Agree with Mav. For that price the Penns are hard to go past.

Got to be wary of those internet/Ebay only reels. You would think if they were that good tackle stores would sell them.

Had a quick look at the tufftackle website....
Can't say I believe everything it describes for that reel. There's a reason why the Stellas and Saltigas cost so much. Its all about the engineering put into their products. If their reels can be done for cheaper and just as strong they would but its pretty difficult to engineer something cheaper to be just as good.

I'd stick to the reputable names and goto the tackles stores and try them out yourself. Make a post about all the reels you are interested and get your feedback. Thats all I can say, at the end of the day its up to you what you buy. I personally prefer Daiwas and all the Opus Bulls Ive sold have not had any problems. Cant go wrong with Penns Spinfishers nowadays. Strong, durable and simple reels. JW are producing great reels atm and offer great value.

Question is what rod are you putting the reel on??

There is a full review of the Diablo 9000 on another fishing forum done by an individual and tuff tackle entering the post to discuss the review.

A few things that are just not quite right with the reel and tuff is changing a few things to make them better for the consumer.

I am watching the post to see where it goes and what the reel will do in performance.

Sure you can Honsu Wink

Theres a fair bit of prestige markup on stellas and saltigas. They charge that much because they can as people are prepared to pay for it.

That being said, they do cost more to make, and I doubt you could make a reel for $500 rrp that was just as good as either of them.

"You get what you pay for" (only it doesnt lineary increase.

Edit: Actually, making a cheap reel as strong as a stella/saltiga with as much drag wouldnt be all that hard. But its not going to be as smooth, as light, as refined (and possibly not as reliable)

No I have not but the guy that did the review is very cluey on reels he did catch a groper using a full squid.
After that he did the review with 21 pictures and the reel disassembled and went right though it in detail on every part.
Like I said not the perfect reel but we will see what tuff tackle do in making it better.

im worried with the rocks n all

im thinking maybe get some lo stretch or something along those lines...
