Creatures of the deep.....
so, in 210m of water heading out off the shelf, we had a drift as there was some sign on the sounder, albiet the wrong or right sign , F**** knows!
my deckie loaded up nicely, with some good weight , but he kind of panicked and lost his mojo ( it was his second ever drop with an elecy) and just confsued himself with how to set the hooks. when he dropped that, i had a dbl of green eye already boat side, he went straight back down, and loaded up again.............
to my surprize, typical of a deep drop species, line starts heading out to the horison blah blah......
up popped a 3 foot very odd looking ray. kind of surprized, and better yet, cut the hook and off she swam, anyone ever came across these out their? if so do you know what species?
it was a national geographic live documentary for us, with the morning consisting of a pod of dolphins (8-12) and two different whales species jumping all around the boat, no matter where we moved...(mind you never went faster then 10 knots due to sounding)........
found these suckahs out in the 500s....... mind the sounder clutter, im constntly changing and tweaking settings to get the best result and figuring out whats settings are best for deep drop......

trying to tick blue eye of that deep obviously.

Yeh bummer on the green
Yeh bummer on the green eyes.
Deep drop is hard work, some people make it look easy but its not.
500m is no joke.
We got some greyband, a pinky and a red but it was slow.
Was my first trip with the 295 so leaning still.

500 metres now that is deep
Sounder pics look ok, fishing in 500 metres is certainly taking it deep and I think rule's out fishing at that depth without an electric, or at lest would limit most people to a one drop and retrieve.

That first sounder pic would get me interested if I was looking for blue eye. Not so the second pic.

I could be wrong
but I am not convinced what you are seeing in the second pic is fish. There is a term for it which I can't remember but I think when you are travelling parallel to a drop off you get a similar showing. Basically the transducer is receiving signals from the high side and the low side and this results in what you are seeing in the second pic. However, I could well be wrong.
