Crabs @ Hillarys?

Hi all,
I've just had a chat to a mate who said he saw someone catching crabs just out of Hillary's. I suppose they like the sandy bottom with weed so it makes sense, but are there many around there to make it worth while?

yer i caught crabs there once years ago in that area pretty sure it was from some slut i took home from the breakwater tavern. These days i catch heaps of them(blue manners im referring to now) with crab pots baited with chicken wings with my awesome little daughter. I sit there in summer with a cold beer in my hand while she fusses around talking to the tourists and showing off to them when she pulls up a pot with a big arse male blue manner sitting in it. by the way we get even more at mindarie keys. As far as catching them out of the marina - im kinda surprised as you are, ive been scuba diving at day and night on the inside and outside of the 3 mile reef in front of hillarys and mindarie keys for a few years now and ive never seen a blue manner walking along the bottom out there cheers mate

Swell
Drop your pots inside the marina when the swell and wind are cranking, the groundswell seem to get them up and feeding and as soon as the swell drops the disappear again.

I swim down there every day
haven't seen a crab yet,do see people potting just north in the shallows,i get the odd one along side the north wall in the shallows just by diving down, see a few caught of the jetty at aqua as well,hard work thou, might try inside the marina from the boat this year
