Cockburn Sound Clarification
I've been fishing the sound for years for all species available at the time and have a fair idea of where things are....
And I find it funny when someone catches a snapper out of the sound they say it was caught at the Gravel Patch, is this a generic term for "Yeah mate, as if I'm telling you..." OR " Just where the other boats were" And from what I can gather there seems to be many versions of where the "Gravel Patch" really is. . .
I was always under the impression that the gravel patch was in the deeper water, as the gravel once came from ships ballasts when they used stones instead of water... Or is this just an old sea dog story?...
I'm not chasing spots,
I'm just after some clarification about this . . .

Have a look at these co-ordinates and see if they line up with your idea as to where the Gravel patch is. I did a google search for them.

Funny stuff
As I have come to understand it.....
generally the gravel patches are the result of sailing ships from Europe , mainly England, needing ballast in their ships for the sail out here. They would bring supplies to the colony and take Jarrah back for ship building and road surfacing. Any ballast not required for the return voyage was unloaded into the sound.
In the early days the main passage into the sound was via Rockinam's Point Perron. Jarrah was loaded out of Rockingham Palm beach area. There is a fair bit of ballast unloaded in the general area of Garden Island Ammo Jetty.
Turn the gain up and sound around.
