Boat type - think this might be it
Submitted by Shane O on Fri, 2016-12-02 21:18
Hi Guys
found this boat the asking price is $23000, engine is a 4 stroke 2013 model. 150 hours, full service history. full clears and covers, heaps of storage and rod holders.
Any thoughts or input for this one, there is a lot of interest in this one so i have to move quickly.

Have a good look and don't rush
Hi shaneo,
depends on what you mainly plan on using it for? If fishing and plan on getting close to reefs I would get an ali. If you want an all rounder maybe a fibreglass boat may be better as they tend to ride a bit smoother. I don't know much about Tahoe hulls but I personally don't really like quintrex's on the lower end of the market even though heaps of people have them. Cheap pressed ali and I talk from experience because I use to have one and it leaked like a sieve. I would try to go for a plate aluminium. A good cheaper plate ali would be a trailcraft hull. I have one now that is 4.65m and punches above its weight and rides really good even in the rough. Might be pressed to find something for 14k but if you search privately via gumtree etc I have seen good buys pop up for around that price. Hope that helps you.

I certainly wouldn't go down the Tahoe path. Good for lakes and stuff, but not in our seas. You'll become a fair weather fisho in no time with that.

just be done with it and go ahead and get a pink Tahoe.
:) :) :)
sorry buddy couldn't resist.
what sort of tow vehicle? should be a bit of weight difference between the two.
Tahoe is really just a ski boat maybe C. sound boat in the right weather.

Between the two? Quintrex
Between the two? Quintrex hands down for fishing and ocean outings... I have a 490 freedom sport and love it! Tahoe would be a cruise/ski boat and you have to deal with an inboard, if you go that way.

Quinny
I had a 480 Quinny with 60 Yammy, put hundreds of hours on it mostly fishing up to 20k's off shore, pick the right day of course with a bit of family cruising, just enough power to pull the young kids on a biscuit but I reckon an 80hp would have made it a better ride. I pushed mine pretty hard, a few cracked welds up under the dash seemed to be the extent of any damage, never took on any water thats for sure, 2006 millenium hull, sold it with nearly 1000 hours on it for $17k, great boat.

ali are lighter to tow. Pm me if interested in a Pacemaker Funrunner 470. Good honest boat, 70Hp Johnson VRO oil inject 2 stroke.

Just make sure the motor is
Just make sure the motor is big enough for what you want to use the boat for. I have a 490 quintrex freedom sport that came with a 60 4stroke... was OK with the 60 but was slow at cruising speed, I put a new 80 on the back and is perfect for that boat. I only mention this so you don't make the same mistake I did.

Quintrex 540
looking at a Quintrex 540 with a mariner 90hp 2 stroke,
the motir has under 100 hours and looks new. They are asking $17000..being sold as the guy is no longer capable of using the boat, just not sure about mariner outboards or 2 stroke engines.

Overpriced
I wouldn't go near that 2 stroke mariner shaneo. Way over priced aswel. The link dd01 put up looks a pretty good buy. 4 stroke heaps better in my opinion. If looked after will go forever and heaps cheaper to run

looks like it ticks a lot of
looks like it ticks a lot of boxes. nice condition and motor.
question though: is a bow rider what you want? if you are looking at open water fishing etc. it might not be ideal.
don't mean to be negative ...if a bow rider is what you want all good. :)
If you are looking at that sort of coin (and if you want something for open water) this may be worth a look

bow riders are more estury family (which may be what you want) but above is a great deepwater dhu catcher.
OK I'm biased I like the Genesis hulls :)

2 stroke
The motor is a 2 stroke and a 2002 model, would there be any issues with that?
The quintrex is a nice boat even the trailer is setup to walk down so no wet feet :)

Yeah the motor may not be
Yeah the motor may not be ideal. (nothing wrong with a two stroke though) but it's getting old. hard to tell if it's a good buy but put the two boats together and you will find one is twice the boat of the other.
Certainly not saying the quinny is not good value for what it is though. All a bit of a trade off. Like I said depends what you want. Quinny looks like it will be good for many years of service for inshore work (I personally don't like bow riders for safety factor off shore....but it is a much newer boatwith low fuel costs). If you want a serious offshore rig you got to pay more or compromise somewhere I guess. (age motor etc)

Westerberg
I had a 5.4 mtr Westy and I sware by them. They are made in Albany for there size punch way above there weight and ride alot better than a Trailcraft as well as being better built. Hope this helps.

i reckon freedom sports are a good choice for more of an all round family boat. Seems reasonably priced... be good for 20k

Just drove by there before, saw that boat and thought of this post. Looks good for what you want. I see heaps of similar boats on the fathom off mandurah so I'm sure you'll be fine. Is that just some discoloration on the hull from sitting in a canal somewhere?
