Big transducers- mounting options - Ali Hull - not TM
Submitted by ChrisG on Sun, 2017-08-13 15:37
crew,
wonder if anyone has any pics they could post on how they've mounted a 2-3kw transducer on a Ali hull? And how performs?
TM isn't preferred
wet faced or tank mount info is what I'm chasing please.
Going on a 7-8m trailer boat so fairings that can be fouled by trailer is a concern

i have heard of 1 setup with a perspex box made to fit to the inside hull and silicon the tranny to the bottom and then fill with water and seal it up. easy to move if not situated in the right spot

Bunks
As John mentioned bunks make things a bit easier.
Ally is fairly easy to make a fairing block and have it added to the hull. Really your only option to mount a 2 or 3kw and not have it on the transom

Wet box setups are not
Wet box setups are not really viable for an ali hull (trying to punch thru the hull)
On mine ive had a hole cut into the hull with a welded circular section that recesses into the bilge . A puck style transducer has then been installed and its flush with the hull so the trailer doesnt damage it

I've got a cm599 pocket mounted in the hull of my ali, great setup and would do it again. I run garmin so I can get away with one transducer for all frequencies.
