crabbing

HI guys. fairly new to boat ownership and have been trying my hand at crabbing in the swan river.
just a couple of questions:
1: am I wasting my time in winter?
2: any tips on bait? I mainly been using old meat and stuff, but so far zero success. best to use fish?
I have only really ever caught them by scooping or snorkelling before, so not sure what the go is with the drop nets.
Cheers!

Chicken Drumsticks
I use chicken drumsticks which last well, catch heaps, don't smell and cheap. My rule of thumb, deeper water and downstream during cooler months, shallower and further upstream warmer months. I find Jan and Feb best and leave the boat at home and use the kayak. Pull the nets every 10 mins or so. As long as it takes me to pull the line and paddle back to the start again.

Used to crab the swan a fair bit
Winter pretty much claremont area to north mole produce crabs and summer from around mosmans all the up to guildford for bait we use either a cat food can that contains fish punch a few holes in that or some chicken wings are good mullet heads anything that wont get destroyed by fish really mate good luck
wont catch em sitting at home!
