We gonna do mostly trolling for mackies tuna and marlin out deep if weather permits then a bit of demersal fishing in the afternoons on the way back in -  any reports/advice greatly appreciated !   cheers dave

Was up there last week. The weather didn't play the game but still got a few fish. The currents were fairly strong out past the 80's so hopefully that changes once the moon phase starts to change. Quite a few cobia were around and the usual in the 50's and 60's. Gut out wide for a short time one day and got a few goldband. The mackies were very quiet while we were up there, only saw two and one wahoo at the filleting table. Heaps of tuna though. Hope you get some good weather. Good luck mate

Make sure you troll some tuna lures on way out even if quickly. Have never seen tuna like we have lately in Coral Bay landing several 20kg+ models over the last couple of weeks and see a few schools of 50+ kg fish on back of reef but every time we get close we hook up a smaller one or Marlin before we are on them.

Il be up there soon. Anyone suggest what best type of lure for chasing tuna is? I got some halco 2.5+ and some rapala x wraps 4.5m - 9m. Do I need a surface lure like a skirt? Any advice would be great. Thanks

Hardbodies

They certianly will take a hardbody Curndog. Got a nice 18kg YFT last year near the south passage in Exy while chasing mackies. From memory it was on an xrap30.

We only troll skirts and have got all our tuna on nearly every size, shape and colour in our spread. I’m sure they will take hard bodies but we have not tryed.

We used hard bodies. The one that did all the damage was a Classic Bluewater in the yellowfin colour, 200mm long. Then hold on haha
