Another Abrolhos moment of bliss...

I know that this topic is almost feeling like a broken record this week but YES, there was a 3 day window of mind blowing amazing weather and Black Sabbath and the Pearl (SimonC) took full opportunity of it! Special shout out and thanks to Poddy (if you get a chance to have a fish and beer with Poddy, do so, great guy!) for giving us a few pointers and heading us in the right direction and yes, Sorry that you couldnt make it Sam, but it was GREAT!

In a nut shell, day 1 saw us leave Perth before a sparrows fart so we were on the water by 10.30 in Gero. Thinking we'd be on fish in the next 90 odd minutes, we were wrong. Finding some great ground, I managed to haul the first fish on board within the hour... a trout! Things are gonna be good with that sort of start!

Day 1 even felt like we had trouble keeping away from the trout. A newly installed 1kw trannie just seemed to be bringing the fish to the boat. HEAVEN! Trout, Pinkies, Dhuis and not a shit fish in sight. That night after some steak and trout, we downed a few beers and slept happily in the boats awaiting what was to come.

Day 2 the two boats went our seperate ways with Simon C looking for the 50KG YFT and myself happy to find more ground but looking for ground wasn't so good. First lesson - get AWAY from the islands. Started nicely again with some really good pinkie ground but then the Charlie Court came to visit and visit they did.... OMG, how many of these little suckers are there! After getting away from them, the biggest baldie I have ever seem was on the line only to be dropped getting him into the boat. The closest to tears I've ever been over a fish. Deciding we needed to move out of the neighbourhood, we took off to see the boys and their tuna hunt. Apparently the sharks were enjoying their company too so not much fun for them. Out of a bit of boredom, we through a few deep divers in and within in minutes we were on. Double hook ups, then triple hook ups. Tuna and mackies EVERYWHERE! Out best YFT smashing my scales at 22kg before lifting it off the ground. Best bet being between 25-30kg. OMG. Not bad for a whole 15 minutes of work! The second boat still only 100meters away and followed by sharks and we were having the time of our lives... yeah baby!

Day 3- back to the new ground search but didnt' take long as we headed further out. Dhu's this time. Everywhere. On like Donkey kong for a solid 30 minutes. This is where we ran into a few of the other boys that posted. Everyone was on. Amazing stuff. Met Stevo and his Stabi craft. Nice piece of work that boat is. Once this shut down, it was off again but not for long. One thing that is very clear to me now is that this area is not very well mapped. Bommies jumping up 25 meters all over the place and packed with fish. HEAVEN!!!

In three days, I've had some of the best fishing I've ever had and I'm left questioning why I treck all the way to Exxy. 2 dozen trout, nearly as many dhu's, heaps of pinkies, tuna, mackies and all in unknown territory. If you get the chance, give it a go. Just an amazing spot  Photos in no particular order... just enjoy

Is the water calm enough?

Great post and cracking photos too... The fact that I am sat off shore in the Bass Strait on a barge and not back in WA enjoying the good fishing conditions, doesn't make me jealous... MUCH...  Hopefully I will be lucky enough to get some weather like that in 2 weeks when I get back....

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

I took over 320 liters on both trips over there. First time i was home with 100 liters adn second time home with a little more. The conditions helped plus the honda 200hp has a sweet spot around 3500rpms and only uses 18-20 liters per hour. This helps heaps.  It's only about 50 kms or so from Gero and once there, you don't need to go heaps far. Just get out into 40 meter for your starting point up to about 100 meters. this said, not far to do this. We used the 200 odd liters over three days also which included a full tour of the southern island, Hamock island and a few "distance" runs from the islands heading about 12 kms out each time.

well worth it. I'm watching the weather charts pretty closely!

nice pics jas! how good was the weather mate......... suppose the only downside was the lack of squid this time round , and as you said the eyes are already watching the charts for another stint in heaven! Even giving the big riffe a varnish today so the fish can see there reflections before the trigger is pulled

How good was the trip hooooooome!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
