Hey fishos
going to have a look at a 2005 v8 Petrol/gas (duel fuel) landcruiser today, 246000 kms on clock. Does anyone have much experience with these cars? Are the duel fuel cars are good buy or something I should stay clear of?
is that a lot of kms, given it is not a diesel would there be things to look out for?
they are asking for $23000 looks to be a one owner car.

That’s a lot to pay for a petrol 100 series.

For towing? V8 petrol
For towing? V8 petrol cruisers are very thirsty when pushed hard, I have mates who have claimed 30L/100 ++ when pulling a decent boat. One even hit 40L/100 into a head wind pulling a 24ft Cat.
Can't comment on gas though sorry

If you watch for a bit
If you watch for a bit you'll find a TD one for about that price, with maybe 300K on it
Difference is it'll still be worth a good price in 3 yrs than the V8 of which $23K is now about top dollar
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Owned a V8 2005 cruiser for 5
Owned a V8 2005 cruiser for 5 years. Pulled my 23 cruise craft up and down the coast a couple of times a year. Sitting on a sensible speed of 95 kph, I averaged 26 litres per 100, best I ever got was 23. I sold that with 160k for $31k and that was a Sahara in showroom condition, so suggest what you are looking at is overpriced.
I am also aware that some mechanics state that the V8 needs work to be done on the valves to last as a dual fuel unit. I don't know if this is correct or not but the rumour was enough for me to not convert.
Then after 25 years on Cruisers, I grew weary of paying extortionate prices and went to a diesel Jeep. Coming up 4 years and not a whiff of a problem and pulls the same boat at 105kph using 17 litres/100 - best of 13.4 on a run to Mandurah. Miss the cruisers but not enough to pay ridiculous asking prices.

had a 94 petrol
had a 94 petrol cruiser....only just got rid of it with 400 000ks on the clock. great car, but very thirsty....
also I looked into getting the gas conversion and heard a lot of reports that it would reduce the life of the engine..something about burning hotter etc so I avoided it, not sure if would be an issue or not with the newer models. all in all, the fuel consumption would be my only complaint with the older cruisers.....other than that, they seem to last forever.... again....cant coment on whetehr would be much dfferent with the newer models...

Gas is really not worth much
Gas is really not worth much the effort these days. Savings just not worth the effort.

Good cars but very thirsty.
Good cars but very thirsty. With the gas gas conversion you need to keep on top the valves. Not quite sure of the intervals for valve checks, but knew a guy who checked them every 12 mths. Not sure what you're towing, but I've got a turbo diesel paj. Bloody mint
still trying

Yeah last time I looked gas
Yeah last time I looked gas was catching up to petrol per litre. I bought a prado a few years ago but stayed away from the ones that had gas.

I have a 2006 V8 Sahara,
I have a 2006 V8 Sahara, love it. 17L/100 around town and 32L/100 towing our 3.5T boat. Dads brand new 200 Series diesel does 12L/100 around town and 24l/100 towing the boat.
It is easier to find a Petrol in good condition than a diesel as a lot of them never go offroad. The V8 is actually the more reliable of the 2 engines as well, but each to their own.

Not sure about
The v8 being more reliable than the diesel. The v8 is a stroked version on a Lexus ls400 motor. All alloy quad cam. I am a fan of them as far as petrol engines go, and if treated right should do 300,000klms without too much hassle. The turbo Diesel engines are full cast iron, diesel itself is more of a lubricant, and they don’t have to rev anywhere near as hard to make good power. Therefore the turbo diesel would get he reliability gold medal in my book.
P.s, I might be a little bias though. I did diesel mechanics back in the day, and have an 04 model turbo diesel cruiser myself

The 2Uz-fe 4.7 Has a cast
The 2Uz-fe 4.7 Has a cast iron block, in terms of reliability I mean the fuel system and turbo related issues that all modern diesels face. The $2000 spent putting a new turbo or injectors on at 250-350k buys a lot of unleaded. Anyway mate I’ve done my maths and I’m happy with my choice, each to their own. I like the drive ability of my V8 and the way it goes in the sand

Just on the motor The 4.7 v8
Just on the motor The 4.7 v8 motor has also won some awards for being a tough little motor and I'm pretty sure they have 4bolt mains and some other goodies as standard in them
Going back a few years now my old man was going even going to rip out his TRD7 mgte with a to4e out of his soarer and put in a uz motor running forced induction
so the motors are pretty tough just very thirsty in a heavy 4x4
I have a 100 myself that the mrs drives (claimed) and I'm considering selling it soon due to the amount it drinks around town
It's a good car though so a bit torn on what to get instead.
