10kg occy

Thought a 6kg occy was monsterous then I pulled out this big fella.
If anyone is chasing big occy legs (know the demersals guys love them) then Shore Catch is the place to go.

Should I put in for a govt grant?
Doing some research the other day about our local occy , common name , gloomy octopus .
Why ? , dont know , but says after mating the male dies , so maybe one shot at the prize then death would make anyone gloomy?
anyhoo it states it can attain a 2 metre arm span and only lives for a maximum of 3 years , but most we catch would be about a year old.
They also have three hearts , I guess so a couple of hussy female occys can treat him crap and he still has the spare to try one more time ha!

Stops certain cancers if you eat regular. I thought local ones only lived 2 years and then both die after mateing. ? Unsure .. was that only 1 occy ?

Could be the Day octopus
There is a tropical/semi tropical species which we commonly referred to as the Shark bay occie when I was crayfishing. Also referred to as the day occie because they actively hunt during hours of daylight. easily identified while fresh, by the light blotches, particularly on the legs. Fade when frozen. They are a very large, aggressive animal, 10 kg wouldn't surpise me with one of those. PITA around SB, obviously, but also came down towards Kalbarri, working well north would see you in regular contact with them. Enormous appetites, and what they didn't eat, seemd to kill from sheer fright. Catch pots with one in and all the apparently whole crays, dead. Drop one and they could bloody near stand on tippy toes as they shot across the deck, very strong and a real job to wrestle with.

They get big ones in Monteray Bay
in the kelp forest......seen some great dive video

Pacific Northwestern octopus?
Those ones they get up in PNW are the biggest in the world--I read a National Geo article on them where a scientist had one they were trying to capture alive, fasten on to their 20ft boat. He reckoned the tentacles were on the transom one end, and the bow at the other .

I'm glad I'm not the only one
I'm glad I'm not the only one freaked out by occy's. Had one wash over the reef between my feet fishing for tailor I made sure I got out of the little buggers way, then I wished id done something to catch it.

Really funny watching a dog on a reef with one.
One of my retreivers is much more a hunter than waht he was bred for, very good eye. I saw him really intent on something on the reef top at Kalbarri blueholes once--then a couple of tentacles extended out of the water
Anyway, that one got away, but another time, his intended target was a wobbie 
That could've ended badly for him.
Those big day octopus actually can lift them selves really high on their legs--you've probably all seen the common octopus trying to make a quick getaweay across a deck as they heave themselves and sort of pulsate , instead of just crawling--those other ones really get up. And do their best to bite the monent you grab them around the "neck" .
