worth a shot I guess

so im off to kalbarri this weekend for a week and the old man has let me take the boat...5 meter runabout...it will only be me and my younger brother on board and were not really set up for trolling and we do already have 2 reasonable spots we found last time a coupke of kms south but we spent a fair bit of time finding them...so what I would like to know is would anyone be willung to help us out with a spot or general area to start looking ? Like 30 to 40 meters?...I no its a long shot but im hoping theres one good soul out there willing to help out as the charts are pretty lifeless up theat way haha

And again yes I no peopke dont like giving out coordinates but why not try

Cheers jayden

No harm in asking mate it's a long way to go. If I knew the area I'd give you a heads up. Maybe PM Tangles on here I know he's always willing to help out. Maybe sling him  a few beers ;)

head north towards the sandpatch; 3km from the pyramid and in 40 foot of water, heaps of reef there ( not ethe line of the cray pots if they are in at this time of the year - follow that contour for trolling); whilst you are there sound around for a strong echo, stop at that point, dive down and grab a hold of the chain that you see - this is atrtached to my SARCA anchor and I will give you a case of your finest choice when you bring that back for me!

Have fun mate!

Range?

Wed, 2013-09-25 11:04

how far from home are you guys willing to go?

give me a radius from port and ill send you enough to be dangerous - as long as you report back with how they fish!

1 condition is that you have to keep a log

lat/long, date, time, tide, overhead weather, water temp (if you have it), water colour, species, and volume

 Will be up there this

Wed, 2013-09-25 11:47

Will be up there this weekend too, towing up the 6.4m trailcraft. First time there in my own boat, have to suss out the crossing aswell

Might be a bit early for Pelagics from what I gather, so trolling might be a bit quiet.

Seems like there is ground straight out in 40-50m so I'm probaly going around there to start with.

Good luck!

When you go out of the river mouth

Wed, 2013-09-25 12:50

dont turn west too early, my understanding is that most boats come a cropper exiting the river mouth cause they turn west too early thats what the guys in the tackle shop told me he kept saying dont cut the corner on the left.  Keep going in a northerly direction for several hundred metres after leaving the crossing then gradually go west if your going to that ground straight out or south.

yeah, out west theres some good ground

Wed, 2013-09-25 15:49

also up past the sandpatch, big sand hill on the shore is a place called the canyons, very reefy, find it with your sounder, its what its called[like a canyon] probably a couple of kays further,in close to sure, don't be in a rush to go thru the passage, hang around and eye ball it until you think its ok to go, even follow some one

mate ill never fish all the ground ive got marked even if i live to be 80

may as well get some reconnaissance work done and get the young bloke hooked up

good to get in the habit of keeping a log too cant forget it when its written down!

I lost some of my tracking files a couple of months ago without logging what i was up to which has left me in the shit with a heap of marks on the plotter that dont match up to anything that makes sense

guess ill just have to fish em all again..

when the minister for good times allows it of course.
