What gear (outfits) do you have? We can't really make recommendations unless we know what you have the equipment to do.

 I have a 6 footer and a 10 footer rod, limited to landbased, obviously hooks sinkers floats, burly. Sorry about the lack of info, not alot for u guys to work with I guess, and thanks for the reply.

The easiest way to catch bream in the river is to use a running sinker rig & river prawns as bait. The running sinker rig is simply a pea sized ball sinker running on the line down to a suitable hook (I use #4 baitholder pattern). Some people, including me run the sinker on the main line down to a small swivel & then tie a leader about 40cm long down to the hook. This keeps the sinker away from the hook a little & it allows you to run a heavier leader if your fishing in really snaggy territory. Bream love snags so the more snags there are in the spot your fishing the better. Look for fallen trees, rocks, jetty & bridge pylons & get your bait in as close to them as you possibly can. There's no need for casts way out into the middle of the river when your bream fishing, you only need to cast as far as the snags are. It's ahrd to do but when you you get that first bite, do not try to set the hook. Bream usually mess around with the bait a bit before actually swallowing it so you need to give them a little time. Keep your line slightly slack & watch it carefully. You should see a few short tugs on the line showing that the bream is interested, when the line starts to steadily pull tight the bream has picked the bait up properly & it's time to gently lift the rod to set the hooks. If you've done it right you will be onto a bream, if you havn't rebait & try again.

There's lots of blowies from perth city down to fremantle so if you want to save yourself some frustration fish further up the river, from about Mayland up to Bassendean in the Swan & Mt Henry Bridge up to about Leach Hwy in the Canning.

For tailor fishing most people choose to baitcast mulies. The rig is simply a suitable swivel tied to the end of the mainline with about 60cm of 30-50lb leader tied to the swivel down to a gang of hooks (usually 3 x 4/0 hooks). If you need a little extra casting weight you can runn a small ball or bean sinker on the trace between the hooks & the swivel. The method is easy, just cast out as far as you can, allow the bait to sink for a few seconds & then slowly wind it back in. When a tailor hits you will know it & your either on or your not. The best times for tailor are dawn & dusk through into the night. They can be caught during the day but your best chance is the change of light. Tailor can be found from most of the rockwalls around the metro area, just look for the crowds & you will know your in the right spot. If you prefer a bit of peace & quiet tailor love reefy areas with lots of white water. A quick scan of google maps will show you plenty of suitable reefy places along the metro coastline.

Great advise city flicker, Can not beleve the amount of people i see casting into the middle of the swan trying to pick up bream. Ascott is a great blowie free area with heaps of snags. Earth worms are a cracking bream bait this time of year, as they look very natural washing through . Although i have had trouble finding them since i ditched the veggie patch.

Trigg lesser blue hole down from the cafe next to the rocks.

Havent fished it for years but used to be very reliable when it was scoured out in winter.

Only need a short rod to cast of the beach or small rock platform into the deep hole right in front.

I found a heavy spoon sinker on the bottom and a blue sardine around 1 m up off a 3 way swivel effective, but once its cast out and your line is tight dont move it until you have a fish or want to wind it fully in as its pretty snaggy.

Fishing space is pretty limited so if your keen get there after midnight and fish into the early morning.

Species I caught there-Herring,Pilch(these are on top of the reef on the right in shallow water),big silver bream,a big sea cobbler,salmon trout and tailor.

I once got there around 0200 in the morning and found the hole chocas with tailer that must have been around 3kg.They were in a frenzy too.

Try this spot and you will learn and catch fish,as you get more experience there you can start to fish the outer blue hole off the reef for access to a very good bit of tailer water.

Dont rush into this-people have died fishing there ,speak to others you see fishing out there and take note of the stages of tide and swell that seem safely fishable while your on  the beach.

Would pay to wear an inflatable PDF out there too.

Im pretty sure rock/reef fishing is the most dangerous hobby in Aus, Take care and stick to the beach while you are still fairly new to things.

Fishing becomes a huge part of your life if you get the bug, stick with it mate-use sharp hooks,fresh bait and  read and ask questions on this forum.

 Very helpful and will definitely try the lesser blue hole.

if your gonna have a crack at fishing off the reef please get a decent set of reef boots seen so many people take spills wearing volleys , kmart joggers etc and if you end up in the briney an get sucked out there isnt many who would jump in to save you

its a good spot if conditions are right few bad egg locals think they own the joint though so take a mate or 2 and they will be less inclined to try an ruffle the feathers of the new guy who is in there spot
