What's the best long shanked hook

I am working on a project at the moment which requires long shanked hooks. Does anyone have any favourite brand or style? Many thanks, Colin Hay

What size and what for? I've seen them from size 14 all the way up to 9/0+

Some of the small ones are pretty weak though. Supposed to be good for removing from a fish, but cant be if they bend and snap off :s

I am not sure if they may be big or strong

Tue, 2009-04-28 15:16

enough for what I want. But thanks for the suggestion.
The long shanks I need, would have to be at least 5cm long and striong enough to deal with strong pulling fish of up to 10 kgs.

Colin... me and my old man use chemically sharpened 10/0 GAMAKATSU hooks.

these babys are solid, and definatly enough to pull up a ten kg fish. your local tackle store may not have them but if you ask them for this brand they may order you some in.

if not.. i no that they have some at BLUEWATER TACKLE on leachhighway if that any help to you

I can just see Colin posting up a good report in a few days and all of a sudden you wont be able to buy any long shank hooks as they will sell out everywhere from people desperate to try the 'new' system Sealed
