What Australia Day Means to Me
Submitted by striker on Mon, 2019-01-28 18:53
So used to go marroning with my Father and Grandfather as a kid on the Australia Day Weekend. So now I have a young fella of my own I decided that the tradition had to continue.
Awesome weekend except was disappointing to see people using kayaks to pull their nets and some using box traps.
No phone reception so no chance to let fisheries know unfortunately.
Who else has an Australia Day tradition?

No
traps at all as they catch everything, drop nets that are marron specific are ok if not in trophy waters which are snare only.

Old traditions
Nothing better than continuing with your old Australia Day traditions. Looks like a great spot. It's a pitty that some, with the help of the media are hellbent on putting another spin on it.

That looks like one fresh morning
Australia day for me is about being an Aussie citizen and valuing the opportunities we have in this great country.
Looks like you had a good time with ya young fella and a good haul of black crabs. Two thumbs up from me.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

My grand parents had a farm
My grand parents had a farm just out from Warrnambool, a lamb would be butchered and we would pig out on lamb all day. All my uncles and aunties would be there with a couple of dozen cousins in tow. Used to be a fantastic couple of days.
