So what is the best bait, best rig, best tides, best time of day, best time of year for bib tarwhine and where is the best spots in the swan for big tarwhine or silver bream. Cheers.

Tarwine are ok on the chew
Tarwine are ok on the chew but bigger is better as the flesh is more firm.
Not the best in the freezer but ok.
Smaller versions = night time up on the flats in the lower reaches(Freo end) with blood worms or prawns.
I used to get them as bycatch chasing whiting.
But for bigger versions try around the yacht clubs and jetties with large whole mussles (same as for Bream).
2/0 G Lock work hook works well through the seam mussle with the hook exposed. Unweighted if you can.
Good luck.

i used to fish under the traffic bridge in freo around the pylons...used to get some cracker tarwhine, and occsisonal skippy etc. use a small running sinker, et of small gangs and whitebait, cast to the pylon, let the current drag it out, then retrieve and dot he same...be careful thoguh, really fast flowing water here, so do not fall in.... havent fished there in years, but used to go there heaps as a kid with some mates. p[robably not a great spot to go alone thoyugh as have seen some pretty dodgy characters hanging about.

Books like this are a really good reference too for people getting into fishing.

The library should also have a selection. Steve Starling's book is good and so is Roger Hungerford's (old as now)
