Bit average out there today Adam!

Poked the nose out the cut today against a strong outgoint tide meeting a strong incomming swell was fun (not).

Once out wsn't toto bad except for the rain squalls & thunderstorms and weather warnings etc etc.

Other than that it was a dandy time with flocks of birds working bait just off the cut not more than a mile or so!

Tooled around dragging lures thru em for about a hour maybe for squat result! Probably was salmon there, but didn't stick round to look too hard as a big thunderhead seemed to have me square in it's sights no matter which way I went - if I had radar and coulda tracked round it -I mightta been tempted to stay and get serious...!

But we were just tooling round (sight seeing) as I said - not really into it in a fishing sense...

Maybe over the weekend we might see if we can find a salmon or two for next years cray bait stocks!!

Thinking of heading to rotto tommorro chasing salmon. never caught a salmon or seen one.Anyone got any advice on where or how.

Head to the south west of rottnest and look for all the boats with rods bent in half, will be lots of them out there tomorrow. We will be one of them :) Try trolling diving lures, skirts, metal slices you name it, mulies, they were that hungry theyd take anything last monday, so will try again and see if theyre still on fire. Look for the birds and surface activity, just troll behind the reef breaks and you should get onto them.

Time to explore a bit on Sunday. I aim to hit some productive spots at the run up to high tide with a fair bit of exploration north of those grounds before and after that period.

Craypots are in about 40m on just about every lump known to man according to my next door neighbour who fished about 12 hours today for one blackass and one harlequin. He reckonned that the current was at right angles to the drift so he couldn't get anywhere near the pots without risking hooking them up.

I might go exploring and pick up some extra marks for later when the pots move further in.

fished this morning, just got home, fished all around the sound for SFA. didnt see any birds working, except for one lot which turned out to be a seal eating a eagle ray.

Not a thing for us either, Rottnest didn't have any salmon, found a few birds working and saw a few salmon crash small bait schools but they just weren't interested in a spread of skirts and divers we were running, didn't see any other boats having any action either and there were a lot of them out there.
Fairly decent ground swell had a couple of big bombing waves on the outer ledge of West End, the waves were pretty sick for the boogies.
Best thing was that we didnt take any bait, good one bolts, and secondly we ran outa fuel inside the harbour on the way back and just made it by tilting the 50, great judgement Billy, on fire today, that would make it the 2nd time this week hey? Maybe should just focus on being a movie star. :)

Agree with the nice day part of it :) Good thing we got some decent footage last week.

haha sounds like we had a similar day, i think i had a drop of feul left in the tank when i got back to woodies ramp. Spent so much time lookin for birds and covered ALOT of ground. Didnt notice how much feul we had used.

The only fish we boated was a 45cm leather jacket on the d9. Slim pickings today i tell ya!

Yes, very quiet here too.

Trolled some minnows, slices, poppers around the back of Penguin Island for zilch. Another boat we saw got onto 2 salmon for the morning. We couldn't even cut our losses on some herring - simply no fish to be found! Hopefully it picks up tomorrow.....

I think I may have fluked the better of the two days (touch wood). If there was nothing around yesterday or today, then maybe there will be a heap of very hungry fish out there tomorrow.

Wish me luck! New ground here I come.

Shame the fish aren't playing the game over there. I went out today and found a few Longtails in close. Didn't make it to the reef due to the wind but had some great fun on spin gear - all around 10kg

Didnt have much luck today. Went out the west end of rotto chasing salmon as well. Huge swells over reef but no fish. Tryed bottom bouncing and got a kingy,flathead,heaps of under size pinkies and 2 stingrays. Saw heaps of birds working but nothing taking lures. Turned out to be a nice day out there anyway.

Fuel comments are a worry guys!

You shouldn't be running on fumes! Thats not safe boating! Carry a 20 litre of spare fuel with you or something!
1/3 out 1/3 back and 1/3rd spare thats the rule!
Your on fules and bad weather catches you out and it's your obits we will be reading in the paper!
I thought some of you just passed TL3 ????
Maybe time for some re-testing!!!

Looks like we were on the wrong side of the country for fishn yest. Got a feeling Andy Mac's going to do well out there today.

As for the fuel, we had a spare 25ltrs that we took and used that as well, did a lot more looking for the fish than we expected too. Also we are just starting to work out how many miles we can do when trolling as it seems to eat a lot more gas than running at 15-20 knots, but, still no excuse for running out. I did comment to the captain before we left that I didn't think 1 tank was enough and we needed bait!

i must say this is the first time ive almost ran out, usually she runs of the sniff of an oily rag. Bought a small back up jerry can the other day i forgot to take which is my new back up tank if i ever need it.

Best day on the water weather wise by far, but worst day ever for bites and captures. We fished over 27 spots (I know that because I added over 17 lumps from all my exploring) But only brought back one Dhuie, a spangled emporer both on new ground and a huge cuttlefish on the way home. The camera never made it out of its case all day.

As far as other fish (SB's, Wrasse, Scorpions etc) were concerned there weren't too many of them either. We released two undersize Dhuies as well, both swam off strongly without assistance.

Best part of the day was finding heaps of new ground that looked very promising. Some lumps were loaded with fish, but they just wouldn't co-operate.

Strange drifts today, we were going right angles to the wind, which made fishing around the pots a bit difficult.

Ah well, there is always next week.

any pics of the spangled emporer? i wouldnt imagine thats common in perth waters?

Probably not a spangled Shizz, but an emporer all the same (maybe a long nose Emporer). Sorry no pic, but I have caught them out wide a few times before.

Jeez cant believe everyone had such a bad fishing weekend.
We on the other hand had one of the best days out ever. We ended up with a 7 and 12kg dhuie, 7 baldies, 4 big breaksea, a 2-3kg pinkie and a couple of huge queenies (released).

Weather was unreal all day and we had to move spots to try to stop catching baldies. Will post the photos up later in the week when I get them off my mate.

Well there ya go, the fish were on the bite somewhere. Guess that Exmouth luck is still rubbing off in the metro waters, nice mate, look foward to seeing the photos.

I had a meeting with a client this morning and I saw he had a copy of the anglers almanac on his desk. We chatted about fishing for a while and I told him how bad it was for me yesterday. He opened up the page and showed me that both Saturday and Sunday were black days (meaning excellent fishing), so I'm glad that worked out for one of us on this forum.

Well done Gully, looks like you bucked the trend.
