I think it's a bit early to tell, certainly no reports from the pros up north yet. Maybe some divers over the next week or so will have some reports of moulting.
Catches in pots very minimal right now. My call very early season this season. Scientists say this season worse than last. I didn't think that could happen.
I tried a little bit in September for reds, but by the end of the month a lot were already tar spot. Not sure if that is early, but my records from last year inidcated I was mainly getting tar spots October-November.
That have moulted and are ready to migrate to deeper water, the migration referred to as walking or the white run....when the ramps are chocker with out of control boaties frothin for a feed of crays.
Water temperature seems average and moon phases calendar date is a couple of weeks shifted compared to last year. The puerulus recruitment index for Alkimos and Warnbro collectors in 2020, which might predict the size of the Perth area run this year, is very slightly down on the 2019, but there is not much difference across 2018-2020, so that suggests a bit of an average year similar to the last couple. I'll try dropping at the end of this month, in case there is some movement during the darks following New Moon of 1 December. Not sure if moon phase is a strong factor for whites though. I'll then just pot for a month until Christmas, as I've found mid-December good for reds anyway.
If only the bloody wind would settle down :/ put mine in on sat, but haven't had a window to check them yet. Looking like won't be anytime soon. As luck would have it good wind always in work days lol!
Haven't been doing much fishing this year after breaking my wrist on our first day of camping up at Ningaloo last year. Been crazy busy at work too. We are back up there this Boxing Day for redemption.
Shot out after work this arvo with the stepson had 21 in 2 pots left my best positioned pot for tomorrow morning when we have 3 licences. Also hoping to see what's in the pot out abit deeper.
First pull after 6 day soak, two pots in 12m off Stragglers, for zero. Still some bait, but nothing at all in the pots. The pro floats in the area were being picked up today while I was there, so if still nothing next pull I'll move out to FFB. Fingers crossed, but FFB worked well last year in December for me.
We did well today 2nd pull. Bagged from.3 pots 2 lisc. The 3rd pot pulled was tangled with several other pots and a 6 to 7ft shark tangled/ dead halfway down. We got our floats and pulled and shark was about 2m below the boat. Was a nightmare of ropes, snagged and way to much for 2 guys. About 6 sharks circling to. What should we do? Just leave it?
You ain't seen a tangle like this. Shark mustve rolled and spun 100s of times. Hate them but felt sorry for it lol. There are pots tangled down below so not even sure how many it has taken with it. Hopefully another shark eats it so it's a bit easier to attempt.
I got 6 today. Been a bit of an average season for me. Weather and work has made things a bit tricky. Have also wondered if pots have have been pulled a couple of times. Have been 2 occasions where have had to search for the pots, and found them a good 1-200m away from where the should be. Steel bottom with an extra 10kg ballast so don't think normal movement. Oh well. Guess will always happen. Still getting enough for a feed, but missing the excitement of seeing a pot brimming with feelers lol! At least I have not lost a pot! ......yet.....
1 last year another 5 days ago , both home made 40 kg. dry weight with double float and and deff. recognizable , no chance on float coming off had copper wire tying ends of the rope , the culprit is taking a huge risk !

Seems like a real quiet year this year and a quick run.... Been going out with a mate off Mindarie for a few years now... Re-set them and been out 4 more times since then ranging from a 2 night soak to a 5 night soak depending on weather and availability, each time we went out we bagged out (16) No massive pots think the most we have had in a pot this year is 10... We havnt been out since last Wednesday due to work and weather but from reports from mates who are not far from us it has really slowed down and they only got 3 today from 6 pots, they have been getting 24 each time but over the last 5 days to a week numbers have dropped off significantly..... Thoughts? Walk might be ending quicker this year
Pulled this morning, 12m depth out from Carnac. Ten size, all in one pot, 1 red and 9 whites. Solo trip, so two went back. Second pot nearby empty, but suspect tampered with.
Cracker day for us this morning 33 in the pots mix of reds and some big whites, other mate near me had 41 in his. I knew this week's pull was goint to be the cream. Very happy with that.
Been consistent for me for the past 3 weeks. Consistently ok. Nothing major just consistent bags of 8 or 16. Luckily I've been doing solo or when the deckie does come we get our 16. Still in close 12-15. I want to bring them in this weekend but deckie says otherwise. Manual pull with no tipper sucks.
Pulled my two pots today after 9 days and got 15. Still dropping same spot in 12m NW of Carnac. One tar sport, 1white and the rest reds. All my pulls previously this month had good numbers but were mostly whites. Seems the reds are now the go.

Went to pull my pots yesterday off the back of garden island. My floats were tangled with another. As I had a closer look it was only the floats and about 10 meters of green rope. Floats were new with a peace of pink pool noodle between, 12oz snapper lead attached. The cut look like a prop hit it. I call it over channel 73 just to see if anyone was around then put it on board as it would be a marine hazard. I left it a the C.P.B.C ramp .
